Removing OEM Spoiler, Damage?

Hello All,

I'm proud owner of BMW M340i xDrive 2020 Black Sapphire. It's actually my first car so i'm not really familiar with this type of scenarios

I'm having car modified with several body exterior parts and the owner of the shop called stating that the OEM spoiler was installed with super glue(I'm guessing he referring to Beta-Link Adhesive) and when he attempted to remove the spoiler there was damage underneath the spoiler

On separate call, he stated that superglue penetrated the paint which causing the damage.

I have a good feeling that he attempted to remove the spoiler too fast and caused damaged underneath the adhesive.

Let me know what you think of this? I asked him how much it would be to repaint the trunk, he said $600 USD. I dont know if i should be considering paying this at all when it doesn't feel like it was previous damage at all. His answers are conflicting which i strongly believe it was damaged when attempting to remove the spoiler.

Should i attempt to push back on this and have them pay for this mistake or how should i go about this? I never been a situation like this before.

Note: I will coming to the shop on Monday to review the damage and see exactly how bad it is. I dont have picture of it yet.

Any help will be appreciated!

I've had the m performance rear spoiler fitted and the stock one removed. My car sustained no damage from the work.

I think either he has rushed it or he didn't know what he was doing.

However, I would not be paying for it as a vast amount of people who have a G20 have removed this spoiler and I haven't heard any thing of the sort.

Wow, that really sucks! I removed my spoiler on my own using literally only dental floss. You just slide it under and back and forth to separate the glue from the wing. Then I used a 3m wheel to get the glue off the trunk. Came out like new. He must have literally ripped it off. I would make them pay for it if the paint lifted. That is unacceptable.

No way would I pay for that. The spoiler was removed incorrectly. They assumed the responsibility for the install and it should have been done without damage.

The posters above are probably right. BUT. The shop guy may probably be right too? I read someone mention they had the same issue too? They removed the spoiler and found issues with the paint below where the spoiler was stuck? It was in a thread somewhere in this forum.

Hi, Just wanted to point out that I've experienced the exact same situation with my 2022 m340i, Multiple areas scratched on clear coat around where OEM Spoiler used to be. The spoiler definitely isn't installed with superglue, its more akin to a double sided 3m Tape template.

FYI Brought the car back to the dealer for them to polish that out and they ended up striking through the clear coat in an area. Didn't see the issue for a month until I cleaned it, tried to schedule a service with them to take a look at it and they reject responsibility. Called up corporate to assist.
