Roof Bar fitting.
Hi,
Just got the BMW roof bars for my 2008 E90 3 series saloon, unfortunately they are required to carry my surfboard! When they are fitted to the car, by screwing into the 4 points on the roof, the screws are screwed in at the recommended torque and can't be screwed anymore. But, the plastic surrounds, i suppose you could call them the 'feet', sit about 5mm to 8mm above the roof surface. Can anyone that has these bars tell me if they should be flush and sit on the roof's surface? Thanks! |

That is how they come - you can't torque it down anymore. Made by Thule. I filed down the metal pieces about 5-7mm, a little at a time (pain the arse) until it fit just 1mm off the roof. Looks MUCH better now What is nice is that after I attached my 2 Thule bike racks and aero front deflector, I can take the entire thing off with just the 4 bolts in about 2 mins. Installs in about 3 mins. Nice.

If these are anything like the ones I had on my Cayman (which where just branded, made by Thule or similar) there should be some foam gaskets that go around and fill the gap.
