Trading my 335i for a 350z?
I know this will be slightly biased however, just wanted to get some other people's opinions. For context, I am a student in mechanics so I do all my own work but also will be a student for the next couple of years so I have minimal income as I do work but am prioritizing school. Now to start, I love my 335, it's an '11 non m-sport AT so I know it's not the most desired and I thought I wouldn't get it until I drove and it changed my mind, and when I tuned it, it was even better. The only issue is the price of parts, and I hate cheaping out so I will keep spending money on it, and in the event that something does happen I will cash out till I don't have any money left.
I love the BMW community and I've met hella people and they've helped me out a lot. However, I miss manual, and ever since my 328 got totaled when it was parked I've wanted to get back in one. Ive been thinking about selling or trading my 335 for a while and I know I will regret it but I was thinking that once Im more financially stable I will be able to come back to the BMW community, maybe even with something better. Right now I'm talking to someone about maybe trading it for a 08 350z hr. I'm not sure exactly what my question is maybe more so just looking for advice from people who have been in a similar situation. |

Manual cars are getting smaller and smaller in numbers by the year. If you know and enjoy it(and also know that you miss it), IMO you are wasting precious time.
I had an auto winter beater for 6 months until I had to sell it and get a manual one even though I loved the car; I understand your pain as the transmission can really make or break a car |

Uhhh 350z are POS. Most of them are B E A T on. It's VERY slow compared to the 335i w/ a free tune. Interior is trash compared. I owned like 6-7 VQ powered vehicles over the years. I would NOT trade a 335i for a 350Z any day of the week. Even if the 350Z had an aftermarket turbo kit on it.
Just keep your eye on the prize. Get your school work done. Save $$$ for repairs. Buy used parts. Make friends with locals so you get deals on used parts etc. You can go FBO with used parts for next to nothing if you know the right people. Who has the 350z a dealer or a friend? 2011 luxury car that is fast traded in for a slower older want to be but not sports car. That is not a good deal.

LOL
![]() Manual swap it! I did this and it’s a game changer. I used to just lose races because I drove a 328. Now I lose races because I drive a 328 AND I don’t know how to shift.

I had a 350z HR manual it was a fun car.
I then got a g37. It was fast and instant power was great. They’re no 335i, though. I drove a friends 335i and saw the power available and never thought of owning another Nissan again. What repairs are you worried about? It is highly Unlikely the car will ask you to drain your bank account one day. You should still have funds set aside for repairs (water pump, alternatorand probably stop modding it to avoid any future failures. Not that modding it is bad, but it tends to expose weaker components sooner. Why not sell it and buy a manual 335i or look for a trade? Just my opinion. I think it would be a downgrade if you follow through with the trade. |

After spending considerable time and money I couldn't eliminate horible rear wheel hop when spinning the wheels in my mt 370 which is also a component breaking issue in the auto's. Beyond 2nd gear they hit a wall in respect to acceleration.

wtf 3050z are trash ?? is a car for car guys....
350z a known for a chassis with a steering and wheels sport car, period. very very basic, kind of light and one of the best sounding and best supported V6 engine of all time. you can hit redline all day long, they are bullet proof. I was lucky, mine was built on a other plant, and I DID NOT have burning oil issue. they are uber cheap to maintain, and good gas mileage , hit a 6.7 l/100km goring from montreal to newyork. you want a rough car driver oriented before we all jump EV, yes 350. You want a luxury car, with tons of electronics and keep under cops radar, keep the e90. N54 need maintenance, but on DIY + rockauto/fcp, those are cheap price wise, but time consuming. Now its all about the risk if you're $$$ limited. Does your e90 fine? you might want be careful to not get a nugget 350z... I would look for : 68yo owned car, always in garage, 60k miles, never tracked. Last edited by oVeRdOsE.; 02-04-2022 at 09:45 AM.. |

If it were me I'd try to keep the 335 and then get whatever you want otherwise. But understandably there's space and money factoring into such a decision.
I personally think that the way the E9x's drive is special, and other cars might be a disappointment in comparison... |

2) As said above, which I forgot, is how bad the visibility is. 3) Yeah that wonderful oil burning VQ. What is nice is you don't have to do OFCs on them you just do FCs. 4) The only reason the VQ is 'best supported' is because Nissan has been milking the same design FOREVER. I assume they still blow MAFs left and right? This is coming from a former VQ fan boy. I owned VQs since I was a teenager. Never again. That being said my buddies have seen successful racing the VQ in lemons. They usually only lose 2-3 engines a year ![]() 5) The 355i blows the 350z out the window in basically every category. Luxury, performance, etc. The only thing the 350z would be better at is a track toy because it is NA and more reliable. On the street it does NOTHING better other than cost less to maintain.
