Help diagnose 'Engine Malfunction'

My 2007 E92 ended up shutting off during normal driving and it turned out that it was a bad alternator. This was replaced and the car was throwing a lot more errors.

Ran a diagnostic check and the following codes appeared:

29CF
2ABC
2E83
2E85
2E8B
2F08
3100

Independent shop is saying that the throttle body needs to be replaced apart from the coil/spark plug for Cylinder 3.

I am not sure if that is what is causing the issue. Could someone help verify?

Thanks in advance!

How old is the battery? Anyway to check the voltage.
These cars go haywire on batteries that are starting to fail.

Hey, thanks for your response.

The battery is about 2 years old. Walnut blasted 2 years ago as well.
Water pump & Thermostat were replaced last year.

Have you cleared the codes to see what comes back? How does it drive?

they probably unplugged the battery in the process. clear codes go for a drive then see what pops up

drive for 50 miles around 60 mph so the monitors reset and report back
swap out the coil and plug for cylinder 3 to 2 if the problem follows to cylinder 2 then swap the coils and spark plugs for new ones FCP Euro as the kit for like 200 bucks and its ngk 1 step colder plug. if the problem doesn't move it could be the injector seal. but its a cheap fix you can look it up on google or if this is ur problem ill help you out

Hi, thanks for the guidance.

I got the car back from the garage (towed it back). Reset all the codes and the only ones that come back are:

2ABC
2F08
3100

I'll swap out all the coils and plugs to get rid of the misfire issues as it seems that there's issues with Cylinders 3 and 6. But any ideas what may be throwing the codes above. Even after I clear the codes via MHD, they come right back.

Did they forget to plug the sensor back in? There is one on the charge pipe close the the throttle body and one on the intake manifold Close to the back.

I bet they didnt plug the TMAP, or Map, sensors back in, I had the same codes when I forgot one time. One is on the charge pipe by the throttle body, the other is on the top rear of the intake manifold.

this makes sense bc they probably removed the charge pipe to change the alternator. if it looks plugged i’ll suggest unplug and plug them back in and make sure you hear that “click”.

the 2ABC and 3100 codes are the same issue make sure you check to see if the boost solenoids are plugged in and all the vacuum lines are connected, also about the misfire if it’s only misfiring in cylinder 6 now and not 3 then you either have a bad coil or spark plug so swap coil 6 and 1 if the problem stays at 6 you got a bad plug if it moves to 1 then you have a bad coil. and lastly make sure those connectors are plugged in

Without a TMAP sensor connected the DME will disable the boost control, so that's why it will also show those boost codes. I'll almost guarantee this is the issue.

I have plenty of experience with this as I had trouble way back with my charge pipe popping off the throttle body and it would unplug the tmap in the process(my tmap connector tab is broken) and it would throw all three of these codes. I also had it happen in Dec when I removed my 3.5bar tmap for smog and forgot to rewire for the stock tmap, once again threw these 3 codes.

You guys are amazing! Right on the money, the wire to the map sensor on the charge pipe had come off. Plugged it in and the errors disappeared right away.

I'll move the coil pack around to localize the faulty coil or plug. Definitely cheaper than replacing all the coils/plugs.

Truly appreciate your help!
