320D choking after corners? traction control?

Feels like the engine starts cutting out after a turn. Only a few chokes and then it's ok. If I turn into a side road or out of a side road or turn at a mini roundabout. The car sputters a few times and it goes back to normal.

The first time I noticed it was a few days ago, nearly stalled while turning into the main road and a few brake/ABS related (I think) lights came on. After that the car stood at work for a few days and this morning I went for a drive around the town in it and after a bit of driving it started happening and was happening after every turn until I got home. At one point I saw the "triangle with exclamation mark and circle arrow" light come on briefly (traction control?).

Any ideas what's happening? Maybe it just feels like stalling but it's some sort of traction control is kicking in?

Do you have any fault codes?
Tyre pressures ok?
Even if it is traction control it is being triggered by something presuming that you are not in a low gear with your right foot planted into the carpet!

The symbol is the traction control - I`d hazard a guess at it being ABS related, just my initial thought, could be miles of the mark though. Is your brake fluid topped up? Don`t think it would cut engine power if it was tripping a low level warning when going round a corner though, worth checking all the fluids and like realdb said, codes and tyre pressures to.

Our roads are greasy as feck at the moment so i`m assuming you`ve taken this into account and the fault is happening whilst you are driving slowly.

All the checks will have to wait until Sunday.

The tyres look ok though the flat tyre light came on just now as was getting back home from a supermarket. But it isn't unusual for it to happen for no reason once or twice a year.

I though it was after cornering but it is not, it is when accelerating. Sometimes the sputtering is during light acceleration from like 1.5k rpm in second gear. Sometimes during harder acceleration above 2k rpm in second or third. And sometimes it's not there at all. Reminds me of my Audi 100 when the fuel pump was dying. Though the memory is very vague, it was a very long time ago. And it was a petrol. Could it be something to do with fuel and the ABS/TC computer interpreting the sputtering as losing traction?

It wouldn't be the brakes grabbing would it? I did think for a bit it could be the brakes. But I don't know how traction control works.

Yeah, now i`m more inclined to say fueling issue. No, fueling wouldn`t mess with the traction control, unless maybe the engine surges when recovering from a stumble and the subsequent torque is to much for the tyres to handle in the current climate. Are you able to get a log for peeps to look at? Even if it not one when the problem happens it may show a weak component to prod at

Not that up on diesels so don`t know all the different bits that could go wrong compared to a petrol, hopefully others will.

Thinking back the traction light was coming on a lot when I accelerated harder in 2nd gear, so I guess it could be what you said. In low rpms it wasn't coming on.

What do you mean by log? Error readings from OBD or something else?

Kinda. It`s a log of the live data from the engine, gained from the OBD, using something like MHD - shows what all the different components are doing and then the smart people on here can usually spot if something isn`t performing as it should.

Can INPA or one the other tools that came with it when I installed it do it?

Classic symptoms of a dodgy ABS sensor. Read the codes and it will tell you which one.

Looked at some videos and it looks like you might be right. I think disabling the TC should resolve the problem if it's the ABS sensor? Not resolve... you know what I mean.

I only found videos about the rear reluctor rings rusting on rwd cars and hitting the sensor. Is there no rings at the front or they don't rust?

If the codes are read it'll tell you if it's a wheel speed sensor & which wheel the faults on.
Is an easy job to replace, did the rear passenger side on mine a little while ago.
A kinda rumbling/tramping sensation from the rear & a little loss in power was the first symptom but that was under hard acceleration.

All four wheels have wheel speed sensors

Try to disable dsc by holding dtc button for a while, not just short press. See if it makes difference.
