Paint damage

Nothing new. Had this problem on my previous f21, have it on mini, and on g42 now. Just 4300 miles. Be aware, use ppf.

Is that old wax? Or superficial scratching?

Superficial scratching because of rigid rubber door seal.

I don't understand, since rubber is softer than paint, in theory, it shouldn't scratch the clear coat. The worst it could do is transfer rubber on top of the paint which should wipe off.

It's hard to tell where exactly this is from the pic, but could it these scuffs be from entry or egress? Maybe someone (not you, maybe dealer?) careless entering or exiting the car with rough clothing or a zipper?

I found Mini Service Bulletin, but it describes the same problem.

Can you provide a larger picture? Very hard to tell where this even is on the door.

Edit: Nevermind, closer inspection has me realizing it’s not the door itself but on the inside edge of the pillar where the door meets when closing, just below the window line. Interesting that prior models have had the issue and they still aren’t installing softer rubber, smh. I wonder if it also has to do with dirt, etc getting on the rubber.

I can't bbelieve BMW still has not solved this door gasket problem. My 2021 M2C also destroyed its own door jambs paint. The only solution is to apply PPF in the jambs.

Yeah this is a major issue if you live anywhere that they salt the roads. Sounds like I’m going to be needing PPF in my door jams.

Thanks, I realized after posting that it’s just above where the inside latch for the door is that you can see at the very bottom edge of the pic. Not a great spot to have paint being removed

My plan is to buy a small roll of xpel and cover the edge area myself, hopefully.

That’s actually not a bad plan, please post results if you do. I may have to follow suit if it works out well for you

I'm getting the whole car PPF'ed… that only includes outside so I guess I'll have to add this on as well…

I got quoted $125 to do the whole door jamb which I didn't think was too bad for the peace of mind.

I fixed it. Two step polish and ppf. 15-20 minutes work.

Looks great. How wide a strip did you use? I was wondering if the pre-cut door guard strips from Xpel would work in the spot.

Not sure, maybe around inch. It's not very important, you just need to cover the edge.
