We picked up one of the UK's first BMW G42 2 series to add to our growing shop car fleet. The new M240i xDrive Coupé pairs an all-wheel drive system with the BMW M TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder engine, a combination we couldn't resist.

The M240i didn’t receive the best of reactions when images were first released and to be completely honest, we weren’t in love with the car either until we saw it in the flesh. It’s been involved in controversy since day one but with the right mods, we think this car has the potential to turn heads for all the right reasons.


Being the first brand new car that we have brought as a company, it was a special day for us going to pick it up. Tony Lewis (@trldeals) made it even better, giving us the special treatment down at BMW Croydon - a big thank you to him and the rest of the team. Our MD Jack drove it back to AUTOID HQ where it was put straight on our ramp, you didn’t think we’d buy a car and leave it stock for longer than 24 hours did you?

Just because it’s new, doesn’t mean it’s good. I’m sure the shop is going to add a bunch of overpriced carbon fiber crap and then say they ‘modified’ it

this is the second time i've read it being compared to the brz, specifically the tail lights. the tail lights are not pleasing to look at but nowhere near as bad as oem brz tail lights. where do you see brz on this car?

Because it's a BMW and in this particular case the next gen of the F22. So why can't he ventilate his honest opinion here?

I just don’t understand why you feel the need to go way out of your way harshing everyone else’s mellow for no reason. You don’t like it. Great. We get it. I think yours is slow, outdated, and old-looking but you don’t see me running around raining on everyone else’s parade. Take up a hobby, like knitting or whittling or something.

There’s respectful ways to vent and share an opinion, without trying to make people who like the car feel bad - which they shouldn’t. I have many longtime BMW driving peers who didn’t like this car in photos, saw it IRL and changed their mind.

Anyway if salty and butthurt is the tone you’re trying to set, do you.

I'll admit I was one of those who thought this car was kinda fugly when I first saw pics of it. Hated how they designed the front end and made the car longer (actually wasn't too bothered about the tail lights). Once I saw it in person, my opinion took almost a complete 180. Although I still would've preferred the front end (mainly the triangle vents) to be designed slightly different, this car looks sooooooo much better in real life and way better than the F22.
