Proper way to discharge freon from AC?
I need to replace the engine, which means disconnecting a/c lines. Cannot drive to the shop - engine is dead. Is there a DIY procedure to properly discharge/recover freon at home? Feels wrong to release it into the air.

No there's not really a way of doing it properly unless you have all the gear. Not sure what country you are in but in Australia there are mobile a/c guys who could come and do this. The other option is unbolting the compressor from the engine and leaving the lines connected.
