General consensus would be Borla, the non-XR-1 version.

+10000.

Heard it in person and it almost sounded quieter then stock (albeit the sound was deeper then stock).

+1. You can also get it much queter by having a muffler shop install additional sound-reduction equipment... e.g. more resonators added to stock exhaust, or stuffing the mufflers with fiberglass or other sound-absorbing materials. You can also permanently close the "golf-tee mod" valve.

only sorta related...

I've had the vishnu exhaust on for a year... I finally threw on the Riss Racing Catted and Coated DPs over the weekend.... and the car actually got quieter....

Not sure of the physics behind that one.... (hotter exhaust gas from the coating ??? not hitting the cat's quite as quick ??? higher flow cats ??? just different distance between cats and mufflers ??? no clue...)

Point is, if anyone understand why/how... what part of the downpipes made my car quieter ?????? and would that have the same effect for anyone else looking for a quieter (yet faster) exhaust setup....

I really like my Active Autowerke exhaust. It's not obtrusive at all really... but I've also gotten really used to it. Its a nice mellow sound down low that kinda changes pitch into a nice free revving character as it gets past 4k. Not exactly sure how to describe it. Regardless, I think it would be perfect for you because getting something non-obtrusive but more aggressive was exactly what I was after too. Power differences for all the exhausts are obviously minimal but I think it helped with throttle response a bit... and it gives the impression that the car is faster purely based on sound. Hope this helps...

Quietest would probably be BMW stock. Unless you are asking for what is the least restrictive, and quietest exhaust.

Borla also makes midpipes... that would be a downpipe back exhaust. I believe the Borla muffler is the quietest available.

AE exhaust is not to loud either, it has a nice little rumble to it at idle but if you dont wanna hear it as much while driving its perfect. In my experience its awesome for everyday driving

Our exhaust is not the loudest, that's for sure. You can daily drive it and not even notice it but let the demonic roar out when you go WOT. Shoot me a PM if you'd like.
