XDrive and Trans Swaps
I have a 2011 335d and it will be pushing more power than the zhp6 can handle. This will be an outlaw dragster. I’m considering a power glide trans. But wanted to weigh my options. I would really like to make it X-Drive and was considering trying to drop like an 6 or 7 series DTC with xdrive. Does anyone know what all is needed to be done to make this happen. Maybe 8-speed ZF 8HP70Z automatic (640d / 650i)
7-speed Getrag GS7-D36BG dual-clutch automatic (M6). Does anyone know what the highest torque rated x drive trans that’s put in a bmw and do these trannys bolt up? |

Unless AWD is really important to you for getting off the line, you might want to check into aftermarket support for the 335d transmission in Ford flavors. I recall the 6 speed being basically the same as the Ford 6R80.
I recall an old timer here (banned long ago) from several years back using some of the Ford parts when he beefed up the 6HP26. Worth a look and I'm not a transmission builder but will add this to my skill set eventually. |
