Hello, just a quick question about having to do a small mod to the metal hood... and then if I need to do some kind of corrosion protection.

I purchased a grill replacement (chrome -> black) kit for my '07 328xi, but the mounting holes are ever so slightly off (1mm - 2mm) for a couple of the holes in the pieces that go into the front of the hood.

I think I can easily just elongate the holes a bit with a metal file. But, then I started wondering if I'd be creating some exposed metal that will rust/corrode. Do I need to worry about that, and if so, is there something I can apply before installing the parts?

grind off then use touch up paint on the bare spots?

Little toot of 2k epoxy primer should do it. Or you could just use some grease or fluid film.

Thanks, I guess that should work. I was thinking of some kind of metal treatment... but given the tiny area, covered/hidden, etc. I suppose that would be fine (even if I don't have matching color).

I suppose some grease probably would work given it is covered/hidden mostly from the elements anyway. Thanks.
I'd probably just go with the touch-up paint above since I already have some, so long as that works.
