Best laptop
Hey guys, Im in the market for a laptop but i know nothing about what i would need, processor speed(if thats the right term) or anything like that.
Basically all i would use it for is school, internet, checking E90post, maybe saving pictures and music. Any ideas and brands, and where is the best place to go? I would just go to bestbuy but as soon as the guy opens his mouth....I dont know wth he is talking about

I love alienware laptops but they are mostly for gaming.... I would say go with a MacBook Pro

If under 1k is your price range then go for a normal apple macbook you can get one for that price

I own alienware and will never spend that much on a laptop ever again.
Gaming on a laptop sucks, because the drivers are always out of date, or incompatible for some stupid reason. Stick to desktops for gaming. I would suggest getting something with a LONG battery life, and atleast a 14-15" screen 17 is too big, and anything <14" is too small...unless you don't mind 12" Sony Vaio's aren't bad but a bit small... I really want a tablet PC next, Fujitsu/gateway? |

Oh and specs-wise
look for this: Atleast a 2ghz dual core - stay up to date atleast 2gb of ram if you're getting Vista, get more than 2gb of ram atleast 100gb hard drive with 7200rpms, more = more storage an independent graphics card would be nice, but internal is fine for most things, unless you want to do some serious multimedia...that is usually what you need look for battery life of 3-4hours...feasible - so later on when it is dead, it will still run for 1hour |

Pros:
5 lbs - light, nice 14.1" - not bad, make sure you check it out in person, see if you like the colors on the screen 320gb hdd @ 5400 rpm - it'll do. Vista 64-bit - needed for 3gb+ Ram 4gb DDR2 ram - good stuff. integrated graphics - FTL but it'll do since you're not gaming. intel core 2 duo mobile @ 2.xx ghz - its good enuff to run most applications. Cons: USB 2.0 Ports x 2 - only 2 of them =/ I don't know if you will use it at home as a desktop too, two too few for me, but ok for the normal consumer IEEE 1394 FireWire Ports x 0 - since it doesn't have any, isn't good incase you want to do any video editing or anything of that sort Overall, I think it looks sturdy! |

Don't bother with Apple or Alienware. They're both overpriced. Stick to darkphantom's suggestions, I agree with em.

macbook, great for school, great for media (photos, music, video), safari is good (although I use firefox)
if you dont like apple computers, then you can also try toshibas, I find that these are the best PC laptops.. second in line is Vaio's but they are way overpriced, more than macs.. then I would suggest either HP or Fujitsu, if you are just looking for a average computer, with an average price, might want to look at dell, for the money, they are worth it. |
