A/C Troubleshooting Help

Hi,
I could use some advice here. Would rather not take this to a mechanic straight away. Car is a 2011 335i xDrive, automatic

My A/C blows cool but not cold. Anytime it's getting close to 90 and above I need to have the fan on full blast to even have a semblance of cooling. It tends to take at least a couple miles of driving to get cool as well.

Starting a year or so ago my compressor was making noise. I figured that could be the cause of my poor cooling with the AC. I replaced the compressor over winter, and now that summer has come the AC feels exactly the same as last summer with the old compressor. This leads me to believe it is not an issue of refrigerant leaking, and not a compressor issue since nothing has changed.

One thing I have noticed is the heat slider does absolutely nothing. Full hot, full cold, the temp out of the vents feels the same. Not sure if it should even do anything though with HVAC set on 60?

I've tried hooking up INPA but it cannot read my IHKA module. Apparently I need a IHKA87_2.ipo file and that is nowhere to be found.

I'm a newb to BMW Standard Tools. I have them installed but I really don't know if there's something else in there that can read the status of AC system components.

Thanks in advance for any help!

INPA is the "Ultimate Tool" for diagnosing IHKA (Climate Control) Module issues. FIRST thing is to understand WHY you cannot get INPA to "Connect to" your IHKA Module.

FIRST STEP: View and SAVE the following Screen, and post it here:
INPA > Functional Jobs > F2 Identification. We are MOST interested in knowing WHAT the "SGBD" or Variant of your "78 KLIMA" or IHKA/ Climate Control Module is. That should be "IHKA87" or "IHKA89" in the 4th Column (SGBD) of the "F2 Identification" Screen. POST a ScreenPrint of that F2 > Identification screen HERE so we can suggest Next Steps.

Navigate to that screen as explained in the attached PDF: INPA Tutorial Quickstart. Sample screen from my 2007 328xi is in PDF. If you're NOT sure how to save ScreenPrints, follow procedure in "Tutorial" pdf.

While in "Functional Jobs", Select "F4 > Error Memory, ALL Modules" at the Functional Jobs Menu. A Screen with TWO pages should appear. NOTE ANY Fault Code(s) in "78 IHKA" Module (on 2nd page), and post any such information here.

SECOND STEP: Try to CONNECT to IHKA Module:
1) At opening INPA Screen, click "E90"; Script Selection Box opens;
2) Select "Body" in Left Listbox; Select "Air Conditioning / Control Panel" in Right Listbox;
2a) IF there are MULTIPLE choices for "Air Conditioning / Control Panel" which appear in your version of INPA, RECORD EXACT wording of each and post here;
3) IHKA Main Menu SHOULD appear; If "Error Message" appears instead, save SCREENPRINT of that error message and post here. That error message should say WHY INPA Can't Connect, telling you WHAT version of IHKA WAS found if the one requested was NOT correct.

Let us know that information, and we can get you connected,
George

Here are the screen grabs. No errors found with the 78 Klima module

FYI it was through your posts I was figuring I needed the IHKA87_2.ipo file..

Hope I can get connected somehow!

All out of "Thoughts".
Per attached ScreenPrint, my BimmerGeeks version of INPA has NO IHKA87_2 IPO file in the SGDAT Folder.
Not sure WHERE to get it. I suppose that's a relatively NEW SGBD/Variant first used in 2010/2011, so NOT in older INPA versions.
The Forum Member that inquired about that in earlier thread had an F10/F1x I believe. I recommended he try that "F010.rar" Datens file,
looking for IHKA87_2 Variant, but never heard back. You might also ask on the F30 Forum.

Please let us know what you find, as I am sure there are others with 2011 or later E9x models that have that IHKA87_2 Variant.

Hey! Yeah I saw that thread earlier and searched through, did not find anything.

I've reached out to that guy in a few places but haven't heard back yet. Seems like he posted on a few boards but has not had a response from any of them.

I'm tempted to just rename the file IHKA87_2.ipo and see what happens.

IHKA87_2 variant INPA

Hi - I was struggling with this too for almost a year and finally found a solution for the 2012 E92_LCI with IHKA87_2 variant.

You can download the pack from the below link, which has F-Series scripts. It turns out the IHKA87.IPO / .INI within SGDAT in this distribution does support the _2 variant. I'd imagine any link for INPA with F-Series scripts may work.

https://www.bimmerforums.co.uk/threa...pa-fxx.412793/

From the Step2 extract file you can grab these 2 files from the EC-Apps\Inpa\SGDAT and paste them into your existing installation SGDAT overwriting the existing. No English translation but works well enough.

Also unrelated but another LCI issue, is that this F-series package supports the E92 LCI RDC / TPMS if you look under the Ctrl + F9 scripts section R - rdc gen3. You can see live TPMS values psi/temperature, registered sensors which is nice since the dash doesn't display this info. Seems like a missed opportunity to me by BMW that they didn't correct until F-Series through iDrive.
