Will 5 series rims fit on a 3 series?
I found someone selling 225/50/17 rims + tires from a newer 5 series (E60 it looks like). I want them. I currently have 225/45/17 style 159 rims. Those rims should fit on my E90 330i, yeah?
I would assume yes but I've seen a few threads here and there that cast doubt on interoperability between models. ![]()

Offset is 20. If it's too high, what would happen? Wheel knocking into the side panels when I turn?

Ok so I read the E90 w/o the sports package has a 34mm offset. Those have a 20. So you're saying those are going to stick out another 14mm? That doesn't seem like it would make much of a difference. If I can now turn my wheels with lots and lots of clearance, I'd reckon another 14mm would be ok, eh?

No Freaking Way. M3 Offset Is 25 I Believe And That's Too Aggressive For A 3 Without A Fender Roll

The offsets for the ones I'm looking at are 20. I don't know what mine are, but I have style 159 rims. From Googling a bit it looks like the offset for those is 34.
So I'm just trying to understand the deal here. 20 vs 34 offset means those 5 series rims are going to stick out an additional 14mm, right? Not a problem for mounting or anything, but for driving? Seems like the problem you'd have with the wheels sticking out too far is hitting a bump and the wheel coming up and smacking your quarter-panel, eh? This is really quite unfortunate. Those rims with RFT snows were a steal. According to the calculator at the top of this page... 14mm MORE clearance on the strut side, and the outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 14mm So I guess that's the deal. F!

You wouldn't be able to run those tires on your car even if you wanted to mount those wheels.

I've seen 18x8" ET20 fitted to e90, so if your car isn't lowered, I think it will fit with 225/45/17 tires, but I don't know with the larger 225/50/17 tires. I found some pics making me believe it could fit. Here's an e91 with style 270 wheels, 18x8 ET20. And the red e90 has 225/50/17 tires.

Takk for det! I think I might give it a shot. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. Not a biggie.

Yeah I think I'm going to go for it. The deal is so good that I may just put the tires on my rims and sell the 5 series rims. 225/45 vs 225/50 I reckon will be fine. I don't have the sports package so my suspension isn't lowered; should be plenty of room.
Thanks for the feedback, gents.

you'll be fine in the rear if you have a sedan. i ran 235/35/19 goodyears on 19X8.5" ET 30 with a 15mm spacer, ET 15 effective, on the rear of my E90 without rubbing. fenders not rolled.
right now i'm running 17X8 ET 15 in the rear, def no rubbing, tires are 225/45/17 the fronts i'm not sure of. that one you'll have to test fit. the tire size shouldnt be a problem, your speedometer will be off, but it will actually read closer to the actual speed. the larger tire will negate the upward bias thats built into the speedometer.
