Doesn't V3 come with bypass plugs? If so, that should allow you to get to work.

When it freezes, just take the key out and put it back in and press start twice again...Next go straight to firmware update and do the update again...If this problem persist I think it has something to do with the laptop....I had this very same problem when i used VISTA....It has never happened again once I switched over to Windows XP. Didn't you have the latest updates already, why did you do another firmware update?

It won't reset itself...when you press start again does it go online with the reader when you try? If it doesn't I remember Dustin told me just to press firmware update at that point even if it doesn't show that its online....the firmware update will still go through

Disconnect the battery for a minute and then reconnect it. Then, try updating again. It should be ok. This happened to Sleepdoc while @ the track; we did this and he was able to update the firmware and map.

No need to go online....just make sure the ignition is on and from there just do the firmware update..It will say that its erasing the old firmware and then it will re-write with new one....I still think it has something to do with your laptop or the connection of the usb cable...This was my problem

i'll try that later on today, i ended up putting on bypass plugs as recommended by Mr. Lawdude, it has been working fine w/ this laptop since V2 and always set on high performace mode, this is the first time the firmware update froze on me

Hmmm...submit a Tech Callback from Vishnu Tuning and they should be able to assist you. G/L.

Same problem for me on Vista, tonight. It will freeze on both firmware and map uploads - never happened with XP. And after map upload, it will auto-disconnect. I just kept retrying until it worked (recycled power and restarted Reader each time).

I had the same problem if my laptop was set on "power saver" But if when I put it on "high performance" it uploads the firmware files just fine

It happens with XP as well...and unfortunately happens more and more often lately.

Its not serious though...just takes 2-3 more minutes to fix it.

Thats really weird because with my old school laptop IBM running XP it has been nothing but flawless updates of maps and firmware...I took Shiv's advice and bought a really dirt cheap one off ebay for 125 bucks with running XP software!!! I have a 1600 laptop using Vista and nothing but trouble even with power save on high!
