Ppf
Hey y'all,
I'm having my car ppf. Is it normal to remove taillights to roll the edges? I was a little nervous when I saw the taillights out, but the installer said he wanted a good install so dust/dirt couldn't get in the edges. |

I wouldn't say that it is normal just for the fact that I think a lot of shops probably skip it. However, a great shop will remove them to ensure the edges are tucked behind the lights and the PPF won't lift up.

A good fitter will 100% do this, they’ll also modify the template for the extra material and trim it.

This is the correct way to PPF .. edges properly tucked to prevent lifting later .. lights must come off.

To me, it is required. You might pay a little bit more for this time that the installer takes to put the edges under the lights, badges, and at every available spot, but it is well worth it. It gives a continuous and cleaner look so that when you approach the car you can't immediately see that you have PPF on it, but seeing edges everywhere (that might peel and/or attract dirt, wax, polish, bugs, etc.).

100% well worth it. The headlights are sealed beam units, and the lighting inside are what's aimed. So, if you remove them, they don't need to be aimed, when reinstalled. You have to also remove the door handles so you get a 1 piece door install, so they don't just cookie cut the door handles and cups out. Remove the badges, trunk, and front bumper, PPF, and replace with new badges, over the PPF, for a seamless install.
