Can the dealer program this as a retrofit without the cd changer present?

Not sure if they can do it, but the general concenus on the forum is they won't do it without a genuine BMW CD Changer in place.

Best off borrowing one or buying a used on on ebay and selling it after you are done.

What do you need it for anyway? You getting a ipod adaptor or Dension?

when I first saw the title, I thought to myself.. crikey, that's a big CD changer...

I was a bit disappointed when I realised it was an option code...

Probably just gonna stick with the BMW IPod adapter, As my car will shortly be going in for a service, I was hoping they could enable it for me. I was thinking of getting a genuine bmw cd changer, but if not needed, I wont bother

Does the car need to be recoded, I have fitted to E46's in the past and they did not require code, plug and play. Cant see the E9x range being any different.

Unfortunately the E9x is completely different operation wise to the E46 - the E9x uses a fibreoptic network bus system comprised of multiple control modules - therefore coding is unfortunately totally necessary if the car hasn't already got a CD changer optioned. And BMW dealers will not code the car without the CD changer present, as they can't force the coding machines to enable a module if it isn't there

You can find an independent to code the car for you, if they have the full BMW GT1 facilities and software, or alternatively they use the Autologic system
