Cinnamon interior color change
I was inspired by a recent post by ethanjoon and decided to color change my interior from Oyster to Cinnamon.
Well, actually I wanted Hazelnut but couldn't find it. Ordered Mocha but thought it was too boring so ordered Cinnamon after that. Bought everything from the same company, leatherworldtech Seems like very nice stuff and was easy to spray. (I used a small hvlp touch up gun I bought online) Overall this job is much more time consuming than I imagined. Other than a ton of time in disassembly and cleaning I was spraying for 10 hours straight. Was very slow moving doing multiple coats and trying to get in all the corners. I couldn't separate the inserts from the door panels as they are heavily bonded so ended up sliding poster board under the edges to mask. Worked great and slid out cleanly afterwords. Really happy with the color, time to start re-assembly. [IMG[https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/4117/qMgRku.jpg[/IMG]

Wow the finished product turned out amazing! I definitely need to do a color change on the interior of my E91.

Attaching 3 pictures for 2 reasons.
1) it isn't that hard to remove the upholstered leather panel from door panels. I did a 2 tone conversion using black door panels and gray upholstering. The seat belts, console, and several of the little black parts were swapped over for nice OEM+ accents. I reglued the panels back on afterswitchover. The rear door panels were the ones with internal rolling shades. I need to sell my shade equipment gray ones. 2) before and after of the side air bag modules going from gray to black. An earlier poster explained to me how to remove them. 3) I decided to give you to whole compilation in case you get extra ideas later. Later. E90post won't allow a ppt file to be attached. This is method I used to compile the 14 pictures. |

Black door panels with gray panel inserts, gray seats and swapped the carpet to a black carpet. It was on there for about a year until I found a different interior color. I still have the panels, just something about them being custom won’t let me toss them out. |

Do you have photos of removing the upholstered leather from the door panels?
I bought a used drivers door panel as I needed a new arm rest and tried removing the insert from that panel. It seemed to be glued/bonded almost 100% underneath to the door panel and was just getting destroyed as I tried to pry it apart.

I do not, not sure if bb_cuda does.
It is bonded to the panel, with some good adhesive! It was a slow process to remove them. I used a flat panel removal tool, about 1.5” in width. Just start prying up the insert at one corner and slowly work your way towards the center. Inserting the tool further and further to separate it. I then used gorilla glue and clamps to put the pieces back together. If I ever need to paint the inserts to change color, I’ll probably tape it up like you, removing them was a bit tedious, but definitely possible! |

Looks really good. Oddly enough, my e91 was originally ordered as white on oyster. Thankfully I changed it to Tasman on Chestnut at the last minute!
Hope it holds up well!
