Changing oil before service due??

I have been on this site for a limited time and I have noticed in posts that some members like to change their oil before the service is due? Is this common, and what is the reason for doing this? Are there issues with the oil condition sensor or the calculation factor used by the car?

there are lots of reasons for changing the oil early. Some ppl follow a break-in procedure, where an oil change comes at the end of that, while others don't like to wait 13-15000 miles between oil changes, while still others just plain like to work on their cars.

As far as I know, the mechanical components on the cars work fine.

It's done in the past already. Most people would wait until the service due.

There's no issues with the oil sensor,or calculation factor, just reset them when you have your oil changed.

I just got my car about 2 months ago, and I'll change my oil every twice a year instead of once a year.

I was discussing this with my old BMW mechanic and he brought to my attention that while you can change your oil once every year, and the synthetic oil may be ok...

BUT... You'll still have engine wear, i.e. engine metal, more viscosity and dirt in the oil.

Which in turn wears down your engine that much faster. BMW considers the life of a NEW vehicle in the USA approximately 3 years.

That's the amount of time the average lease is, and that's when the car will start to show performance issues without the proper care.

My advice is if you drive aggressive and often, change your oil more often to keep the wear in check.

$75 safety tip... And my 2 cents.

Piece of mind I guess...I change mine every 5,000 miles.

My SA and I decided to change my oil every 8K miles or six months. She still will give me the one year or change when the car determines the change is needed free.

It's a cost but just my take.
