First look at iDrive8 in the M240i G42

The first actual M240i with ID8 I have seen other than the BMW website renders.

Interesting look. Not sure how I feel about the 'tablet on a shelf with a kickstand' look at 4:40. The screens actually look like an appropriate size for the car (4:52).

The dash on the passenger side is a nice touch too (4:28), but is that an option? Also no adaptive button below eco pro (4:58).

From the passenger seat side view, this is one of the worst incorporations of a large screen that I have seen. This screen design application just screams stopgap, cost savings and were taking our SUV screen design and applying across all models, even if it is completely inappropriate in a performance sport coupe or sedan.

Haha! You aren't wrong. I have a 22 with ID7. I prefer ID7 over 8. I have seen ID8 on other cars, and I don't mind it at all. However, my issue with it on the 2 is that it just doesn't look like it was thoughtfully deployed.

I like the larger screens like that on more future forward cars - like the Ioniq 5... but it really is personal preference. If I waited around for a 2023 I'd still be happy.

I've actually used iD8 and I like it. While I think it could have been incorporated a bit better, I'm not upset that it'll be in my car.

Nah, I have a 2023 incoming and think the kickstand implementation is absolute shit. But I’m still gonna love driving my rwd B58 powered hell of a car

The amount of glare and reflectiveness on the curved screen as seen in this video has me a bit concerned. Hopefully it's just a bad combination of lighting and camera angles.

I think this is the case. In the real world, I drove around for awhile on a bright day and didn't notice glare or reflection that was a lot worse than the iD7 screens.

If you go on the BMW CN website in chrome and translate there’s some interesting information.

https://www.bmw.com.cn/campaign/2022...how/index.html

The new BMW M240i Coupe produced from July 2022 to
March 2023 will feature the BMW M 50th Anniversary
logo as standard. It pays tribute to the first BMW M racing
car in 1973, and demonstrates the passion of the BMW M
brand for half a century.

also it seems that the spoiler in gloss black used in M3 and M4s comes as standard for CN customers. they are so lucky, this comes so nice on the car, wish it was available worldwide from the factory even as an option...

Also note the M badge on the air intake.

https://www.bmw.com.cn/content/dam/b...pc_598_329.jpg

All nice touches but perhaps the G87 isn’t going to make its way to the CN market so that’s why it’s marketed as an “M”.

They had an 8GC (ID7) and X7 (ID8) right next to each other at the BMW Championship last week, so was able to compare. Guess I like the more traditional design/implementation cause I thought the ID8 was awful in both looks and operation vs the ID7. ☹️

I think it looks fine. People complaining about the kickstand I kinda of agree but as the driver you're never going to see it besides when you're cleaning the car. I do think it should have been molding in or something for a more seamless look
