2008 E90 - N54 29E0 runs bad at idle

Hello!

I have a E90 that belongs to my Mother In Law. the car has a random jump to it, and runs poor at idle, and hard starts sometimes when warm. under load or even just RPMs at 2k smooth it out a little.

According to INPA, O2s seem in normal ranges - Fuel Pressure seems good, and the car has new spark plugs, boots, intake valves cleaned, and zero vaccuum leaks. The injectors were removed and sent to InjectorRx in Houston and serviced/cleaned and re-installed and the problem persists. I have a 29E0 lean code as well as a cylinder 4 and 5 misfire but no codes - just saw the codes pending in INPA. Also, upon inspecting the injectors when I pulled them to send out, I found that one of them is a index 12, and the other 5 are index 9s... I know there's issues with the injectors relating to recalls but my VIN does not have the recall available according to the BMW Website. I also replaced the VANOS sensors with a different set just because.

Is my next step to buy injectors? They are insanely priced. FCP wants 3400 bucks for a full set, the car's work maybe 8k. I found lots of sets on eBay but am worried about getting fakes. Any ideas on what else I can try? Should I just try a set of ebay injectors? I am at a loss on what to do now, and the car has been in my garage for 2 months

I am very new with working on BMWs, and if theres info needed from INPA or anything, I just need someone to tell me what report to run and will respond accordingly. Local shops here want 7k to do this job and its just not feasable.

Thanks for any info I greatly appreciate it!

Clear the codes and see if the injector misfires come back. Then if it returns you can switch coils. If that doesn't change where the misfire is coming from then switch injectors. If the misfire follows the injector then it's the injector.

The 29E0 Mixture Control error should be a bank 1 O2 sensor. Give that a go and it should smooth out your idle issues. Code doesn't automatically mean the O2 sensor is done for, just means it's failing. I had mine run fine for 3+ months getting the code intermittently until it finally ran rough.
