Are there any vets here?

Our dog has been acting very lethargic for a day. He hasn’t really been eating and hasn’t been jumping on the bed.

At what point should I bring him to the vet? I called an emergency animal hospital and they want $260 just to see him

Age, breed?

We spent $1900 a few months ago to get our 11 month old cat to pee after learning he required special food.

$260 sounds like peace of mind.

French Bulldog - 2 years old. I guess I’ll wait until lunch to see if he’s feeling better - he just was able to eat breakfast

My wife manages an animal hospital and anytime I ask for advice she gets very upset. If you see something is wrong with them in. Don’t go to a 24 hour hospital unless it’s after hours. Call your regular vet and take them in. They can’t speak so it’s always better to be safe than sorry.
Give them a special treat like shredded cheese or something and if they don’t take it, likely something is up

As others have said, start with your regular vet. Call them and provide the symptoms causing you concern. They can better advise you on a course of action. If after hours, go to an emergency vet.

You kind of have to gauge your escalation yourself, though. If they aren't bleeding or in obvious pain, it may be something that passes (literally).

If their behavior is night/day from the norm and they are in obvious discomfort, though, then def take them in. Again, that is something you'd need to gauge as there are a lot of nuances.

Edit: It's useful to learn what common ailments are specific to your pet's breed. Likewise for what is common in your area and lifestyle (eg leptospirosis). This helps w/ keeping your pet safe/healthy as well as being alert to warning signs.
