CEL/limp, help me Dx

Help me diagnose my check engine light.

E93, dead stock, the most aggressive "mod" I have is BMW rubber floormats. 6500 miles; changed the oil myself with 0-40 Mobil1 BMW approved at 5000.

I had driven the car about 20 miles, parked, went inside, came out 30 minutes later and got the yellow CEL/limp light. Car was indeed limp; it pretty much felt like the turbos weren't spooling.

Stopped the car and restarted it; the problem went away, car ran normally, felt normal. But the next time I stopped, then restarted it, the starter turned the engine 8 or 9 times before the engine caught; it sounded like a mechanical 'brrrrrap' sound before the engine fired up.

What do you guys think? LPFP? HPFP? Winter coolant issue? Something else? I'll drive it into the dealer to get the code read, but obviously they're closed over the holiday, thought I'd ask you guys instead.

Not enogh details to truly know; no codes, etc. It looks like a trip to the dealer would be in order.

No way to tell for sure. But with that many miles on it, it sounds like the dealers problem. I'm am sure most people will automatically say HPFP (mine went twice), but without taking it in you can't really be sure.

Yep, dealer will be taking a look at it. Build date is 9/07; model year 2008; sport/premium, if any of that matters.

its the HPP, almost guarantee it... When the car starts to misfire the wastegate go open from limp mode thus turbos dont spool and car barely moves. Typically you restart it and you are good for 1/2 mile or so and then it does it again.

Service advisor thinks HPFP - right on schedule. Thanks for the moral support, guys.

Anyone know if build date 9/07 is under recall for the HPFP?
