"service engine soon" - only when engine off?
I noticed today that if I turn the car on (hit start button twice without brake) but don't start the engine the "service engine soon" light comes on. But if I actually start the car, the light goes out. I don't usually do this so I don't know how long it's been doing that. What does this mean? I only have 1000 miles on it.

are you sure this isnt the car just cycling through all the warning/indicator lights on the dash?

Just talked to a service advisor and was told this was normal. They said some of the normal data checked to clear this indicator on cannot be obtained until the engine starts. Can anyone verify this?

if it does it again, it may be HPFP. when i had my 335, it happened at 21 miles! g'luck. hope it's not the case for you.

when my hpfp failed, the Check Engine light stayed lit while the engine was running.

it really depends. mine sometimes stayed on and other times it went away. that was why it was hard for my dealership to diagnose. they read my key and couldn't find any errors! just pay attention to your cars if it does it again. and also other people experienced long crank before start, i was on the other hand had no cranks.

If your car is running and there are no service/engine lights, then you are fine. No long cranks, bad cranks, rough idle, half engine light on, ses light, then you are fine.
