G87 M2 930M wheels are cast, not forged

Not sure if breaking news or not, but

had my suspicions confirmed that the 930M is a cast alloy wheel, unlike any other G8x M3/M4 item currently on offer with the exception of 19" 829M (winter set).

Link to M3/M4 weights.

Can't say I'm too surprised considering the MSRP. For those weight weenies out there that's an easy ~40lbs to remove by swapping wheels.

Lame.

Now we know why they weren't labeled 825M. Not because of something like different offsets.

Definitely a step back from the F87, which partly explains the high weight, but at the same time leaves a lot of room for weight reduction.

Look at the link in the OP, the 829m wheels in 19in are cast wheels. 33.1lbs for a 19x9.5 et20, imagine a 20x10.5 et20 cast wheel.

Had BMW made the 824m 18/19 standard on M2 like the M3/M4. That would have saved considerable amount of weight, 30-40lbs of unsprung weight.

Now the miniscule weight difference between a G82 is making sense. Standard 48lbs sunroof, cast wheels adding another 30-40lbs.

I am really tempted by getting the 824M fronts as my winter set and once the OEM 19/20 tires wear out just put new summers on the 824M wheels too. Saves as much weight as the carbon roof and provides tall sidewalls for year-round driving here in Colorado...

So what are the weights of the wheels? And is there a source?

Confirmed by who? If true, that would explain why these wheels which are identical to the 825M got a different designation and really sucks to say the least.

Guys this M2 is turning out to be crap of a car. Please take your name out of the list, so we can move up the list lol. Seriously though BMW is really cheeping out if this is true.

We have to expect it. This car is 10k cheaper than the G80...the price cut isn't coming from the kindess of their hearts.

Side note, a set of 826M wheels will cost you around $3500 from your parts store. I see GetBMWParts has them cheaper.

I am not worried about wheels, will be running aftermarket anyway, hope it will not effect the build quality vs G80-82. I was seriously considering selling my G80 by end of the year but now I will hold it for bit longer until press release, and get an actual allocation.

It really raises my suspicion that they purposefully made the G87 a porker so that it doesn't encroach too much on the base M3/4. Between giving it a steel roof and adding insult to injury a sunroof as standard they added roughly ~48lbs to the car in the second worst place of all, up top, where it hurts the cars center of gravity most. But they weren't done handicapping the car just yet. They then gave it cast wheels to add another ~36lbs in the worst place of all. Adding all that unsprung weight to hurt its handling even more. All in all a total of an additional ~84lbs that shouldn't be on an M car in the first place. F'n hell, it weighs almost as much as a G42 with xDrive.

US press release weights:
G82 manual - 3830
G87 manual - 3814

Only 16lbs difference.

Now take into account the standard carbon roof on M4 and forged 18/19 wheels. Honestly think it could add up to over 100lbs on US spec cars, G87 vs G82. In theory, G87 is a low 3700lbs car with carbon roof and 824M 18/19 forged wheel/tire setup.

Errebody acting like the F87 was some lightweight and wasn't as heavy as the F82 M4.

That is pretty lame of them to do, but makes sense given the new designation.

Na, the f87 was heavy, too. But at least BMW gave us the 437M forged wheels instead of creating a cast copy with different coloring.

Are cast wheels really 7-10 lbs heavier per wheel compared to forged? Seems like a lot, but I'm not a wheel expert. If true, that's good news since I'd be running aftermarket anyway.

makes you wonder what other cost cutting /corner cutting measures were made

what about the build quality of the vehicle? it's already being built in mexico, was that not a big enough cost cut already?

Replace the battery with a lighter lithium one and the G87 can be sub-3700 lbs.

Where is the US press release specs? All I've seen is this that shows the manual version as weighing 1700KG (3,748lbs)
