Some side swiped my back passenger side fender at lunch today. It took some paint off, but did not put and deep scratches or dents (thank god). Basically it just rubbed some paint off. I have one of the BMW touch up kits that matches my paint color, but I have not had to use it yet. It comes with two bottles. One looks to be the paint and the other looks like clear coat. I’m guessing that you put on the paint and then put on the clear coat after that dries, but not sure. The package doesn’t really have any instructions. Has anyone used this stuff? If so what were some of the lessons learned? Thanks in advance.

I bought touchup paint when my old BMW had some chips in it. The package had two bottles -- colored paint and clearcoat. The instructions were on the back of the package underneath a large sticker that had a barcode and some other stuff on it... that was 3 years ago, so the package has probably changed.
Anyway, the instructions as I remember them were to clean the area first, then apply the colored paint in small layers to fill in the missing paint. Let it dry for about 30 minutes and then add more if necessary. Once done, you can apply the clearcoat layer and let that dry and set for about a day before you get that area wet or wash/wax. That said, some people have had success with Langka (www.langka.com) which is more of a system than a paint chip fixer itself, but you might want to take a look at it.

If the scratch isn't that thick, don't use the brush part. I would use the end of a matchstick or a toothpick to get into the thin places.... Let the paint dry about 35 minutes, then apply clearcoat.

Thanks for the advice. The biggest spot is about the size of a dime, so should I just go ahead and use the brush for that?
