Radiator Fan not turning on

Hello so I have a 2011 BMW 335i xDrive E90
bought after a front end collision, I replaced the radiator fan (auxiliary fan/cooling fan) and all fuses. Main Female connector has good voltage. No luck in finding the fan relay.
Foxwell scanner NT604 gives me a code saying:

ID - 31E9
Description -
Electric Fan, Activation: Line Disconnection

See if you've got battery voltage between the 2 big pins on the connector for the fan assy. Mine has battery voltage there at all times. If no, then it's most likely the engine cooling fan relay. I believe its behind the passenger side front wheel well. You have to remove the tire and remove the lining to get at it.

Thank you for the reply
I've searched but There is no physical cooling fan cutout relay on my model year 335i, 2011
Instead it is a 5 amp fuse in spot 28 that is the cutout relay.
But I solved the problem!
Checked voltage on all 3 wires. Negative and positive were good but Blue/black wire was no good so I checked and the wire connection was bad. Redid the wiring, cleared the codes and behold the cooling fan works now

Will not let me PM but

Hello there! To check the voltage you don’t need the car on. And when you use the multimeter on the plug make sure the negative prong is in the negative socket at all times as you put the positive prong in the positive socket and make sure the voltage is around 13 and then put the positive prong in the small socket above the positive socket and make sure the voltage is around 3-4.

^ Here’s a video that explains its better visually (Go to timestamp 5:00)

I hope this helps!

Thanks Bud, much appreciated!
I did test like you mentioned and no luck.. its showing 0 volts.

I had just checked the main fuse (60A one) and that seemed ok. Now I will go and check the other fuses he mentioned in video (related to thermostat?).

Also he mentions a cooling fan relay at 8:55... Mine's not at the same spot since mine's a 335i e92, and his is a 335d e90

Any idea where the cooling fan relay is and how to get to it? I suspect this is a different relay than the starter relay, which is in the Fusebox.

bimmer_stud For the model year 2011 E90/E92 has no cooling fan relay but every other year does (weird) but if you have no voltage unwrap the electric tape covering the wires for the plug to make sure no wires are grounding or exposed (which was the issue for me) there should also be multiple fuses for the cooling fan

Thanks Traxk.
I checked Fuse on spot# 92(60A), 28(5A), 33(40A). All in good condition- verified with multimeter.

Next (and only) step is to unwrap wire. Just a visual tells me its ok (not rips, shreds in tape/wire and no exposed metal)..

Traxk888 can you elaborate on what you mean by 'redid the wiring'? Did you replace the entire harness (which i think is quite expensive)?

I unwrapped the tape from the wire that goes into the radiator fan and it looks to be fine visually, but still no voltage on it.

BTW, there is a fan relay in the e92 335i 2011, its located here https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=61_3964

I checked the relay, even replaced it- it didnt help. The pins that the relay plugs into, show voltage as well.

Appreciate the help.

On how I Redid the wiring is that I cut the wires that were grounding on each other and then respliced them and covered with heat shrink. I saw somewhere else that the e92 might have a negative wire held down by a nut following from the connector to the beam where the radiator support and crash bar bolt up to

Have you scanned for codes? This could give you a hint where to start.
