Toyota EV achieves only half of advertised range in Winter

https://fdm-dk.translate.goog/nyhede..._x_tr_pto=wapp

Quote:
Danish magazine FDM tested the two-wheel and all-wheel variants of the electric SUV and found that they both failed to meet their advertised range capacities. The official range of the two-wheel-drive bZ4X is 504 km (WLTP), but only managed to travel 246 km before needing to be charged. That's just 49 percent of its claimed range.

The all-wheel-drive version did an even worse job of hitting its targeted range, which is advertised as being good for 461 km (WLTP), but it travelled just 215 km, 47 percent of the advertised range.

The test was carried out at 4C (40F)

It's well known that this vehicle is a half hearted EV effort from Toyota and not a good representation of what other manufactures are trying to do with EV's.

Tons of EVs in Anchorage all winter. I see all manner of Teslas, some of the new Hyundais and others. Was -20C today.

It’d likely go like this
- Toyota yet again proves they are the biggest losers in the EV game and they’d become obsolete in 5 years, hybrid tech is wrong and Toyota will drown by its failure
- Tesla is GOAT of EV and will be so for the next 10 or so years until others catch up because… reasons, and it’s always 10 years, because he says so
- future is great because everyone can drive a 2 second 0-60 car, as if it’s the only single metric all 8 billion people on earth care about
-2030 is the set date of EV evolution, and it’s cast in Granite by Almighty Elon and will never change because he says so, as if politics, economy, war, supply issues, climate change, superviruses, food insecurities, infrastructures required, electrical supply issues, labour issues, does not exist, of course because that’s for the plebs to worry
-probably something about destroying everyone in the forum in debating with ‘facts’, or maybe alternative facts I guess…
-followed with putting you on ignore, even though apparently he wins every argument and ignores the ‘loser’

I mean that’s been the MO anyway, maybe he’d surprise all of us

Toyota hedged it’s bet on Solid state, or more likely EV 2.0, to be fair it’s not the wrong position to be in and this is at best half hearted because they need to when they finally realize it may not be as easy as they initially thought

Wouldn’t matter, Toyotas loyal fanatics will eat this up regardless of its problems.

Other brands get a 30% to 50% hit here but that's tests in -20c weather.

This is why I really like a properly implemented hybrid vehicle. Best of both worlds.

Simple solution, just don't drive when it's cold. Problem solved. You guys want to make it seem like there's a problem with this tech when there are obviously some easy solutions.

Exactly and this is what the media fails to realize or purposely omits when writing about Toyota being late to the EV game. Toyota holds the most patents in the solid state battery space. They are the first company to have a prototype running solely on solid state batteries. Akio Toyoda has brilliantly setup up is company to fully enter EV market at the correct time, when the right battery tech is ready. Solid state batteries will revolutionize the EV market. What is the rush to enter a market that currently makes up less than 6% new car sales in US right now? Meanwhile Toyota will sell every new hybrid Prius they can produce.

They are the OG's of this segment of the industry.

I used to own a 2009 Altima Hybrid, it used a Toyota hybrid system (that Nissan licensed ) on the Nissan motor/trans. For the time, it was an awesome product. We got over 180K completely trouble free miles from that car, and still sold it for a good sum when it was time for an upgrade. Best car I've ever owned from a cost/function/reliability stand point.

Didn't you hear, according to a Tesla fan boi, we are losers for driving dinosaurs around when the silent EVs will destroy any ICE car, as he does every time he commute. (destroy would be just according to him, I doubt sleepy dad/mom going to work who didn't sleep after a whole night of tantrums from his kids in a CRV barely managing rising costs from inflation while his mom is sick is thinking of racing some Tesla Model 3)
