Highway 9 from outside Saratoga to Boulder Creek is a very nice drive into the Santa Cruz mountains. It's a wide, well paved, 2 lane road with tall trees on both sides, few cars and 40-60 mph speed limits. My car was never happier.

If you ever take a trip down to Monterey make it a point to drive Highway 1 Big Sur. A lot of twisties and fun to drive! There are a lot of turn outs where you can get out, take a short hike, snap pics... on of my favorites is a turn out where if you walk down a pathway you will end up at a beach that is sealed off where there are hundreds of dumb ugly sealions laying around and attacking each other.. fun...

Not sure where you live in the Bay Area...

For East Bay, one of the most exciting roads I've driven on is Mines Road from Livermore to the top of Mt. Hammy in San Jose. It's 50 miles of twisty turning canyon backroads with little traffic. Absolutely a blast!

For Marin County, Lucas Valley road out to the coast is awesome. Plenty of other roads out there to explore as well.

For South Bay, the Skyline is always fun. As is 84 from Woodside out to HMB.

I haven't found a road that I absolutely love yet, but Bear Creek Road in Orinda is a lot of fun to drive

Hwy 1 (north from Santa Cruz or south from HMB) to Pescadero Road to Hwy 84 to Skyline (north or south) or stay on 84 to Woodside. Depending on when you go, you'll experience every sort of weather. Be careful/considerate of the cyclists on 84 from Skyline to Woodside -- they like that ride, too

if you're coming from east bay, take the 680 southbound all the way through the sunol grade and through fremont until you hit scotts creek. Hug the right side at the fork until you hit milpitas blvd and bend left 90 degrees. Then cruise for about a half mile until you see the plaza on the right at 1735 N Milpitas Blvd. That is your final destination

You should take the road from WC to Clayton....it's a nice ride. Then shoot out to 580 @ Vasco in Livermore to catch Mine's Road. you will not be dissapointed.

Mines through mt. hamilton is a favorite but i still tend to favor hwy 9.

The other one that i like is the road to stinson beach. I forget the hwy, but it's one that is a blast to drive at night.
