ban fighting in hockey?

A new video brings the age old question, into question: Should fighting be banned in hockey? Should Semin be banned from fighting? Should the league offer him MMA/boxing lessons? Is Semin an avid drummer? Or a fan of Donkey Kong? Is he emo? What was he saying when he was slapping the other guy? "leave me alone, i hate! i hate you!" Maybe the most disturbing part is the fact that Semin WON the fight!? So many questions, so few answers. Last edited by NoKids; 01-05-2009 at 05:17 PM.. |

^ I don't agree with that, the objective is to score not punch someone out. Any other sport would result in a fine or suspension.
The NHL should emphasize putting the puck in the net and leave the punching to the square / octagon rings. My 2 cents. |

I'm new to Canada (well 5 years or so) and only watch hockey occasionally. I'm sure the NHL keep fighting in for viewing figures, there is no doubt that it raises the figures. Speaking to friends here who play for fun in amateur leagues after work etc. fighting is not tolerated at all, it is only the NHL which allows it.
I was thinking they should introduce fighting in other sports, it could certainly to help clean the divers out of soccer if you could punch them afterwards. |

It's part of the game; as much as hitting is a part of Football. Sure, the object of both is to score, but if that was the only objective then it would be 5 scorers vs 5 scorers and no goalie. That's called basketball.

i wasn't seriously asking the question "should fighting be banned". i was just making fun of Semin who should be banned from fighting forever!
we have to face the fact that humans (in general) love watching fights. as far back as the Roman empire we've had fights for our entertainment. the Romans had gladiators fighting to the death, they dropped Christians into lion's dens. a hockey fight is mild violence imo. |
