good ideas for 335xi drag setup?

Hello all, I got a 335xi AUTO and im going top mount single turbo, and my end goal is to hit 10 seconds inna 1/4 mile… i feel like i have all the necessary upgrades to the engine etc… just dont know what to do for my drivetrain..

So far I plan on running X-delete and a drag wheel setup in the back

And once the 6hp21 starts showing signs that its slipping, i plan on going with the PD clutch kit, Nizpro shafts..

But i was wandering if anyone here has any better suggestions, or any more information on PD and Nizpro

Thanks

No x delete needed. 10s in a XI is fairly easy to do. 1/4 mile times rely heavily on a good 60ft .

Not much you can do about the front diff. It's a bear to replace, and there really aren't a lot of options to improve it. It's actually a decent diff, just not so much when you get into big tq numbers.

So I should just stick to my original RWD plan then..?

I wonder when ill need an LSD and if the XI rear diffs are different ratio then the regular 335i’s..

Ratios are same for rwd and xDrive automatic, and same for rwd and xDrive manual. LSD not really needed. Good suspension setup, diff lockdown, 15” or 16” slick tires in rear…. What engine mod do you have?

If you want 10 seconds, the all-wheel drive is going to be a huge help because of the improved 60 ft times. Stick with it until it breaks and then decide what to do.

Why not leave everything alone and run 10's with the X-drive setup and stock tires? X-Delete sounds counterproductive? And you don't need a drag wheel setup either.....seems like overkill. I run 10's with my RWD 335i on street tires....leaving in 2nd gear. You should have no issues with traction if you leave the x-drive alone.

As far as the transmission goes...it's cheaper to do the HP28 conversion vs building the HP21.....and it's much stronger than the HP21.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I would like to run Xdrive, but i always hear people say that the t-case wont last long at all, and id rather not break it…

And i should do a 6hp28 swap? What about the 8HP transmissions? And info/costs on them? Any good “how to’s” on how to do these kinda swaps?

My engine mods:
Note, im from Ontario where E85 is basically not acheivable so im trying my best to get the most out of 94 oct.

-Speed tech Top mount with a GTX 3576R
- 7.5 FMIC
-helix overdrive
-index 12’s
-single walbro 535
-CSF radiator
-Mossel man thermostat
-BM transmission cooler
-will be getting custom tune from CD919
- XHP stg 3
- BC racing coilovers
- alot of other little things like catch can, PCV, charge pipe etc etc.

Most of these mods are not installed as im building the car atm.

If i go RWD i have a 15inch brake conversion kit on the way, and weld wheels and MICKEY THOMPSON ET STREET RADIAL
TIRES.

Again, id love the AWD for drag, but hard launches will definitely eat away at the T-case very fast.. right?

I think you are better off leaving the X-drive. It's going to take some load off of the rear diff.....so that's not a bad thing. Keep in mind, if you do the X-Delete, and plan on putting 100% of the power to the rear tires.....with a set of drag radials, you are probably going to break some other stuff like axles and/or diffs. I would rather have the power split between the front and rear diff.....easier on everything.

Are you planning on dragging the car every weekend? Or just every now and then? What kind of power do you think you will be making? If your goal is to just run 10's, I don't think you have to worry about breaking the transfer case....but I'm no expert.

But don’t you think when I launch the car, all that stress on the front diff and transfer case will cause them to break? I heard the rear diff is stronger so it can handle it abit more..

My power goal is around 650whp and no i will not be drag racing every weekend,

It’s gonna depend how you drive if you take it easy it should take it for a while if your super abusive it won’t last I had a guy who would blow up front diffs and axles like it was a hobby. 650hp is hard on the front drive train if you plan on launching it a lot. E85 isn’t hard to get in Ontario I have a guy who will come drop you a barrel but it’s about $2.80 a litre e98. You can also do port meth if you don’t wanna mess with ethanol but I’ve never been a big fan of meth. If it’s not setup properly I’ve seen a few fires and popped motors

Unfortunately, any time you up the power there is a chance you are going to break parts. Are you going to break the diff? Who knows. Are there guys running 10 second 1/4 mile times on the stock diff. Yep. Does that mean yours won't break..nope. Does it mean your WILL break? Hard to tell.

In the end, you never really know what's going to break until it does.

Yea so I basically just gotta get my car all finished up, drag it in AWD and see what time i get, and do the same with a RWD setup.

Its just that i see wayyyy more people run RWD setups then the XI setups, so thats why i wanna do the same, cuz they are obviously doing it for a reason right?

And yes you can buy E85 in barrels, but ill probably do that later on, as its still gonna be my daily and i wanna daily it on just 94..

Without running at least an E40 fuel mix....you are going to have a hard time running 10's. These motors really need a high ethanol content fuel mix to get the octane up so you can run more boost and timing. Most people seem to be running mid 11's on straight pump gas.

I could be wrong, but I think the main reason people do the x-delete is so they can have a little more fun driving the car.......sliding the back end out around corners, doing burnouts, etc......AWD is quicker, but some people would rather just burn their tires off 😁

x-drive is heavier, so its slower. You might say xdrive is better from a dig but a properly setup rwd can do just as good as an awd.

Yes, the x-drive is heavier...but doing the x-delete tune doesn't make it any lighter...it just puts all the power to the rear wheels.

With any type of decent power.....and x-drive is going to launch a hell of a lot harder from a dig on the street vs a RWD car.... except maybe for a well prepped track.

Any news or people who run this?

My engine mods:
I got AWD on my car for the purpose that I knew I'd be building big power... I would not own any car anymore without AWD. And I think it's alot of the 2WD crowd who often talk about how fragile these are I haven't seen it and I've been on mine from a dead stop pretty good... I have around probably close to 700 at this point, and I have almost no wheel spin in 2nd gear, even third gear chirps a bit then hooks up. I'd never go 2wd again... especially on purpose

I would DIE first before I would EVER swap to an automatic transmission... I won't own a car with an automatic. It's d eal killer, which sadly means I won't be getting another corvette.... I do like those, but... nope.

LS1 swap, automatic trans, Ford 9" rear end. Easy solution.
These are my stupid thoughts.
