BMW Style 124 on pre-LCI E90?
Hi guys.
Own an E90 2005 320D PRE-LCI (M47 Engine 163HP) as my first car. I absolutely love it. I plan to change the current rims & tires (R17 with winter tires, aftermarket ones I think) to something bigger for the summer. I have got some BMW Rims Style 124 R18 for free. The rims specs are: Front: 8Jx18 ET20 Rear 9Jx18 ET32 The current tires on them are 265/35/18 on the front and 285/35/18 on the back, but they are junk. So I will throw them away and get my own premium tires, Pirelli, Continental, Bridgestone something. The thing is, I have no idea what tire size to get for it for the best handling and protection. I don't really care about fuel efficiency, I don't want to cheap out on them because I am not a great driver so I want the best handling and stopping power. (Will also work on the brake system a bit). My driver's side plaque says for R18 to go with 225/40 front and 255/35 rear but I am not sure if that works. Would like to go wider for better handling if possible. What tires setup to go with? Thank you. |

The standard sizes of 225/40 and 255/35 are very good. I believe you don't regularly track the car? With wider tires the handling in daily driving will feel worse, not better (the car will be more eager to pull towards tracks and grooves in the road).
