Non I-Drive to I-Drive dash with Apple carplay possible shortcut?
I have a Non I-drive e92 and I really like the look of having apple carplay matched with the I-drive dash.
I know I could do the whole process of a CCC or CIC retrofit but I am curious if it is possible to skip some steps in that process to only really have the carplay functionality. Tried to find a thread abt this but couldn't find something with this "shortcut" I am wondering about. If anyone has any help or pointers it would be greatly appreciated. P.S. ik there are other options like that dash cutout but my main goal is that double hump oem look. |

I have done full dash swaps 3 times now. All have CarPlay added on. You can skip the Combox as that is not used with CarPlay. You also don't need to activate the iDrive nav (CICpatcher). So coding is basic and minimal. GPS antenna can also be skipped. USB to glove box is also not needed.
Wiring is pretty simple. Hook the 4 screen wires to the back of the CIC along with the 2 power wires for the controller. Hook the 2 can bus wires for the controller to the can bus run by the parking brake. The shorter run prevents can bus noise with the extended wires that come with the CarPlay systems. Aux in can use your current connection or use a Mr12volt CarPlay to use MOST fiber for the best quality sound and simpler hookup. |
