Rattle or shudder on full throttle high RPM accel..

Hey, I was wondering if anyone had experienced a noise or vibration upon full throttle acceleration above 4k with a JB3? I have had it with maps 3 and 4 of the 1.22 version, still out of town so havent got to try the other maps though..
No codes and runs like a scalded dog though.. No other mods
Thanks

There's a very simple explanation for that: Detonation.

Run different gas and be easy on it for about 100-200 miles. See if your car adapts. I had similar issues with Procede when I tried to go WOT minutes after installing it. It went away after some adaptation.

Very unlikely to be detonation, but could be part of the adaption process. Could also be something unrelated to tuning like an exhaust rattle, etc. Best to shoot Terry/BMS an email and they can troubleshoot it for you

What part of that process would induce a rattling sound?

Without proper technical troubleshooting from BMS I can only speculate, and you don't have much credibility when it comes to the JB3. It could be a loose bolt, could be a new exhaust rattle from the additional torque, could be tire spin, could be the wastegates adapting to their new duty cycle ranges, etc. Who knows.

The OP should contact BMS and work with them to determine 1) if there is an issue and 2) what the resolution is

Mike,
It's not about how much faith I have in any particular product. It's about giving technically sound advice. You said that rattling is unlikely to be knock and could be a part of the adaption process. I just wanted to know what else could cause rattling during the adaption process. And now you suggest it could be the wastegates adapting to their new DC?

Wow! If my exhaust rattle was enough to make the car shudder, that'd be insane!

I experience something that sounds much like this......it is kind of a groaning sound when I go WOT at low rpms.

It seems to occur when the wastegates clamp down for maximum boost....sounds strained whatever it is.

Also notice some inconsistent throttle choking/performance reduction.

For example.....did a second to third gear run - second gear was it's usual awesome self but third was much less powerful. Then about 5 minutes later, I was cruising at 3K in 3rd gear and punched it to pass someone......third took off like a missle and the way it pulled felt identical to how second gear felt 5 minutes earlier.

I notice this inconsistency about 50% of the time.

Terry explains it as IAT impact, but I am not so sure....it feels more like the throttle is closing to reduce power (maybe that's how IAT boost decay works????).

But I have never been able to identify that groaning sound when I floor it at low rpms.

P.S. As to Mike's comments.....Shiv often gives useful advice regardless of tune. Sometimes he is marketing, but sometimes he is simply trying to help someone with advice.

Interesting. I have to say that I have had a sort of "groaning" noise at WOT high rpm's, like above 5500. Very tough to quantify or describe. It is not loud, and if I wasn't so critical about the car, I would not notice it. I have even wondered if it is just my imagination..

I did not notice it when I was running v2, pre 15k service. At some point after the BMW service, (supposedly no doomsday update), and v3 install, I began to perceive this noise. It does feel to me as if the car is being slightly held back, but that also could be my imagination. I ran at the track against another v3 car, and a JB3 car about a month ago, and there was really not much difference between the cars. I was even slightly faster.

Never a limp, Never a CEL.

IAT= Intake Air Temp. Not sure what "IAT Impact" is though. It might be a new Microsoft font. If not, I'm guessing I don't want any of it.

I get the growl with my jb3 at high revs. I dont know what the hell it is but its coming from the far left side of the engine.Sometimes it seems like its coming from the drivers door and floorboard. It wont do it on the stock map though. I thought it was exhaust related then I thought I might be going crazy. I think I might try something different anyway and go with a new procede race.Ive never had one and Im thinking of finally trying it. Maybe the noise might go away..Who knows.
