Unhappy Someone switch on the lights

Need a little bit of information regarding headlights people so any help appriciated. As i stated in another tread long time ago mine are terrible as stock halogens compared to my last A4 and the Landcruiser i drive for work But i am a bit confused with the different types about so here i go

Xenons - probabily a dealer on option ?? can they be retrofitted if so is it expensive

Angel Eyes ??? read about these on the froum from time to time. Are they just the ones that look like circles when the are on dipped, are they the same as xenon ?? again can they be retro fitted ?? any idea of price.

HID`s - are these just replacement bulbs, do they make any difference over stock halogens

Again thaks for any more info and a Happy New Year to ya`lllll

Xenons and HIDs are the same thing. You can retrofit xenon lamp assemblies but it is expensive and to be legal you need headlamp washers and auto-levelling.

It is also possible to fit HID bulbs (with the ballast and ignitors) into a standard halogen housing but this is illegal with standard halogen reflectors as it gives too much glare and scatter.

Unless you have deep pockets you'll have to live with it.

Angel Eyes are called corona rings these days and are the sidelights / daytime running lights. Fiited to all e9x xenons and to halogens too on the facelift.

Not all bulbs are the same and over time, normal halogen bulbs loose output.

Take a look at www.powerbulbs.co.uk and check out the Philips X-Treme bulbs on there. Again these have come out top in the annual Auto Express tests and really do make a BIG difference over stock bulbs.

The best bit is that they are 100% legal and only cost £30 for a pair.

I have used the Philips bulbs in the past on non Xenon cars and can report they really do make a big difference.

BTW

Avoid the BLUE bulbs you see on the above website and in Halfords. They are a waste of money and beware of the 100W bulbs you can get. Yes they will fit and yes they will be brighter but you run the risk of a fine by the boys in blue and also the risk of all that heat causing problems to your car. Not worth it.

^^ agreed. Phillips Xtreme are the best conventional halogen bulbs. Avoid the blue-tinted xenon-wannabees at all costs, unless you're 17 with a ratty Corsa.

Sorry I misread your earlier post. UK spec is pretty sparse to say the least. A bog standard 330d is much the same as a bog standard 318d inside.

Just a thought - since as others have said, there is nothing wrong with normal lights on an E90 it might be worth trying to work out why yours are so bad rather than changing bulbs?
