Has anyone changed their own oil / filter?

Being a mechanically caring kind of guy, I want to change the engine oil well before the 'first maintenance' at 15000 miles.

Probably 3000 miles or so when it's nicely run in. Don't give me hassle for this, I've always done it with motorbikes and cars. But I don't want to pay the dealer £105/hour plus £15/litre to do it for me.

If anyone has done it themselves, some advice please:

1. Where the hell is the oil filter? If anyone has some tech diagrams that would be helpful!!

2. As their is no dipstick, is the electronic level display good enough to get the level spot on? (plus the engine needs to be running to use that display)

3. Did any error messages come up during or after changing the oil?

Cheers.

I changed my oil and filter at the 7500 mile mark with no problems.
The oil filter is the round black cap sitting to the right of the valve cover. A strap wrench works great for removing it.
If you drain the oil and add 5.9 US quarts back in the oil level will hit the full mark right on the money.
There were no error messages and the oil service mileage number did not change.
There is great writeup in the DIY forum with pictures and make this a snap.

have you looked in the DIY section and do a search?
I am sure someone has done this and have posted a DIY instruction. Good luck.

Thanks,

I thought the black cap by the cam-cover looked like a filter cap, but I'd never seen a filter on top of an engine before!

Please do a search or refer to the master DIY list (where you'll find the DIY oil changing instructions)

JASON: Hadn't spotted the DIY section.

BTW the oil change FAQ in that section has lost all it's pictures from the OP.

Can anyone sort that?

Do you mean 6.9 ? 5.9 would make it a quart low.

25Nm for both the filter and the drain plug.
