---Wider tires on 162 wheels---

I have searched now for about half an hour (without any luck) looking for the answer to the following question--

How much wider can the section width be for my stock type 162 wheels which are

F--225/40/18, 18x8
R--255/35/18, 18x8.5

It looks like I can put 245s on the front, and 265s on the back, but I am not sure about this.

Help guys!

Thanks.

I saw some guy about 6 months ago that managed to put 275s on the rear. Can't remember his name, but he moved up to an M5. He said that they fit, but looked bulgy, if you know what I mean. So it is possible to go with 275s in the rear, but you would have to be comfortable with that bulging look with the tires.

So then I should be fine with 265s in the rear.

Yes, you can run 265 on a 8.5, but it will bulge. Just depends if you mind or not. And yes 245 in the front will work. I run 245 all around on my stock 189 setup.

The recommended rim width range for 265/35R18 is 9"-10.5". Going outside of the recommended wheel width can negate any positive effects of a wider tire and may even cause adverse handling and irregular wear in some cases.

It is very common to move up to 235/40R18 up front which fits both the wheel and the car with no problem. Going with 235/40R18 up front and 255/35R18 rear can also help reduce some of the built in understeer and help the car have more neutral handling.

Gary, thanks for your help. Sounds like the right choice. Now, where to buy the tires?
