Hey guys. The M240i was recently featured on Carwow.

Not a totally fair comparison as all of the hatchbacks were running proper tunes, whilst the M240i was on a tuning box, so significantly down on power. Still held well all things considered.

Was good fun on the day.

Awesome! Jack what was the stock hp figure at the wheel or crank you were able to measure on dyno ?also, were you able to dyno it after on any tuning box's map to see what was the difference in gains ?

I just watched this and I don’t think the M240 was the right car to compete in this, even with a tune. But I think it held its own, about as good as expected…the M2 would have been much more appropriate in this race. I do consider the M240 as a direct competitor against the Golf R though. The A45 and RS3 are definitely in a higher segment.

The m240i was a lot slower on the second run. Did it cut power due to being ragged with a tuning box on?

Considering the M240 was down at least 40hp, I'd say this is pretty impressive.

M240i did well. I doubt the a45 and rs3 are running what they claim. Shouldn’t be so close. I think the comparison is appropriate as Carwow already did a stock car comparison and the m240 won its fair share of races. M2 would probably struggle in the drag race being rwd also

Yeah I dunno about that. That car was pretty maxed out. Upgraded turbos and a real tune. They should have put an actually tuned M240 up.
But I will say that the ease of tuning in the VAG world is great.

I may be a little bias especially after a fresh steam clean and wax to wash a little of the winter away to dream of summer .

The M240i did a 12 sec 1/4 mile, it does 12.2 stock all day long

Put up a good fight TBF against full fat variants with proper tunes!

Why run a tuning box and and toast your warrenty for such little gain? Hopefully someone will crack our ECU’s soon!

Tbh I also saw ~12.0 - 12.1 timings in stock mode as well. I think this beast can even push 11.9s but in perfect track/tire/launch conditions combination.

True but it's the Autoid car and I'm pretty sure they have one of those piggybacks. I followed them when I was looking to get ab M240

Can't agree with you there. A tune for a typical pedestrian GTI is $600-$1000 and most likely you can't implement it with an app on your phone. Where as bm3 and mhd can be as low as $300-$500 and you can tune it based on your mods with unlimited canned maps along the way.

Thanks Brother I absolutely love everything about this 2er 👊🏻👍🏻 Had it for about 9 months and feel like I’m still on the honeymoon lol. Always taking the longest routes and hoping for red lights to stop at.
