Disabling Passenger Airbag
This might be a stupid question but I was wondering how I go abouts disabling the passenger airbag on my 06 e90 330i?
I know for sure that it does not have a key slot hidden that does allow me to disable it, however I have ready (and I think it might only be applicable to US cars) that there are sensors that disable the bag when certain conditions are met (ie belt plugged in - weight < x stone) My biggest concern is that this is a factory option and to be able to disable or just turn of the airbag restrospectivly is going to be expensive.... Any one else had to do this? What do you have to do - how much does it cost? Does it in any way spoil the car? Can it be reversed?? Any help would be much appreciated!

Dealer only reprogramme if you are willing to sign a disclaimer regarding the safety of a passenger.
Can only be switched on and off by the dealer as far as I'm aware. Thankfully mine has the key switch. |

So I think I have concluded it is a dealer reprogram and my signing away my wifes life (!) - does anyone know if there are any physicall changes needed also? I know in my e46 coupe the dealer said that seatbelt pretensioners and seatbelts would also need to be changed - all at a cost of around £400....

Are you planning on putting a child seat in the front?

Thinking about it yes... I've actually just posted a new topic here asking about fitting 3 children of various ages and 2 adults into a 3er... I was contemplating using the front for baby (if and when it comes) and then the back can be for my two boys (5 & 3) and wifey!

For the E92 (320d), ISOFIX for the front passenger seat became standard in March 08. My E92 a January 08 build and I didn't get it. The airbag disabling switch comes as part of the ISOFIX option. The 6 cly engined cars tend to have more options as standard than the 4 cly ones so that maybe why some have it and others don't. |

my E92, April 07 reg does not have it.
i was having this conversation today with my friends, my baby will be due in two months time, and i was wondering where that switch it was, in case i wanted to put the car seat in front. That option should have been standard i think.. |
