It looks to be similar to the E90, you'll need to remove the bumper and/or headlight to get to it unfortunately. It's located on the bottom side of your headlamp assembly (somewhat large metallic rectangular box).

Usually rectangular box mounted behind or underneath headlight housing.

The headlamp ballast for the driver's side headlight of a 2003 BMW 530i is located behind the headlight assembly itself. You'll need to remove the headlight assembly to access the ballast, which is a small box that controls the power supply to the headlight bulb.SnapTik
