Anyone see the throttle house review? Basically said the m2 in manual is a dog. Anyone having second thoughts after all the reviews hit?

I am not buying a G87, for various other reasons I decided for myself —-BUT just came here to say don’t ever give reviews too much merit to make decisions for you.

These YouTube videos are meant to generate income for these channels, the clever ones know how to generate attention and clicks—-and that’s exactly what this channel aimed for with this, IMO. You can tell just by the title of the video…

They would've gotten clicks even if they liked the car. There are plenty of Throttle House reviews that are positive that did a lot of views. There's nothing wrong with them giving their honest opinion of car. In some ways the G87 is a step forward, it others ways it's a step back. It's not all BMW's fault, components are becoming more expensive and regulations keep getting more strict.

It's actually refreshing to see a reviewer give an honest opinion instead of just being a shill for the brands to ensure they continue to get invites to launch events. But at the end of the day, it's only an opinion. A lot of G87 owners will love the car, others won't keep it long before they move to something else. It's no big deal either way.

With all the (non-throttle house) press reviews I've seen glowing about the manual driving experience (with the common refrain of the bmw rubbery shifter) I'm not worried at all. If I have to rev it out slightly for power I dont see that as a bad thing, but hey, when I get behind the wheel myself I'll quickly find out for myself.

Ultimately the reviews were exactly what I expected, a bit bigger, heavier and more powerful version of the m2c means it is a bit more clinical and less lively. That's fine with me as part of the reason I want it is for the nicer interior and tech features paired with a stick and a straight six

Not one bit: the video is trashy journalism clickbait and we all bought it by talking about it. Let them have their Lotus Emira with a Camry engine and reliability issues. Which by the way is slower but praised for being fast and fun.

No one puts a car into 4th at 30mph with gearing long enough for 120 and mashes the throttle and complains about turbo lag. That's pure idiocy.

Moving on...

Edit: Sorry, 4th is good to 140mph - even dumber than I previously thought.

I couldn't believe that when I saw it and wondered if it was meant as an April Fool's joke, but it seems they were serious. They undermined their credibility with that.

Maybe as a follow up, they'll drive the ZF8, put it into manual mode and complain that it launches slowly in 5th gear?

I tried watching it based on the review thread but just couldn't get passed how stupid that was. I regret giving them that much of a view.

That review is going to age like milk.

Except to F87 owners, of course.

Clearly you did not bother to read the Reviews of 2023 BMW M2 (G87) Are Here! -- Compiled List posted by Admin. It has been bitterly discussed at length.

BBC Top Gear always did a great job entertaining viewers with tongue-in-cheek bias that was clearly never meant to be taken seriously over the actual journalistic parts of their reviews.

This Throttle House review is a poorly executed copy of that formula. It’s the difference between professionals and amateurs.

What manual car going 30 in 4th gear is going to pull hard? Seems like a terrible point to highlight.

Fuck no. I’d never let those clowns sway me. They’re in the entertainment business, look at the title of their review. Clickity click click is their aim with this car, certainly not mine.

Hey Everyone, Thomas from Throttle House here. Our review of the M2 was very thoroughly thought out, and we stand by the things we said. Drop your questions here and I'll try to answer them.
To address one thing re: lugging the engine in 4th. We also did the same in second gear the moment before and you can see how unresponsive the powertrain is at low revs. The 4th gear pull was just a way of REALLY showing it off. For reference my OG M2 pulls hard almost immediately at lower revs. Off boost turbocharged motors feel really dull. And the amount of off-boost in this engine is much larger than normal. But feel free to respond and Ill partake in discussion!

Thanks for dropping in the comments here. Did you talk to other reviewers at the event about this? It seems weird that no one else had similar comments around turbo/torque lag, especially from a manual vs auto POV.

I support you guys and find it disheartening the feedback you've received on this forum.

Lots of us here (myself included) have had deposits down for a long time, and are anxiously awaiting their delivery. That's no excuse for confirmation bias, however.

The fact of the matter is no one has driven these cars outside of journalists who had limited time with pre-production models, so its unfair to unequivocally denounce your experience with it.

imho I'm not worried; the G87 as far as I can tell is a G80/G82 parts bin car, so a simple tune should fix whatever "de-tuning" BMW has done right up.
