Veloster N or CTR?

What would you guys choose between these two for a 3rd car to fill the MT void? I've found two super low-mileage 2021 models (both under 6k miles), but I'm struggling with what one to pick. I'm normally a Honda guy, but idk if the CTR is worth 12k more in this scenario, or maybe it is.

For some additional context, the wife drives a Model Y SR and I have a M3 xdrive. And yes I know there are many other choices out there, but I really have honed in on these two after driving countless other cars.

CTR for sure.

It's more reliable, fun to drive, and you never have to worry about the powertrain or engine.


Hyundai N engines however..........

There's a reason why most dealers have a engine room, there's so many blown engines, whether it's a normal car or a Velostar/Elantra/Kona N.

Some insurers don't even cover KIA/Hyundai anymore due to fire risk.

The ctr definitely feels closer to a real car if you ask me. I've driven both and the Veloster felt more like an economy car due to all the extra nvh and it somehow had more body roll on quick turns while also riding worse than the civic. The 12k extra is worth it because they also hold their value well.

CTR hands down. It's not even close really IMHO. I imagine the super low mileage FK8 is being sold at a premium to the original MSRP. If you don't mind me asking, what are they asking for it?

I'm a huge Honda fan, as you can see by my user name, but I've been jaded lately with my M3P....

If you test drove a those two cars back to back with M3P or even the M3LR you would most likely choose the Tesla...it is almost twice as fast 0-60 and has better lap times than both of those cars on most tracks also...trust me, my Porsche now feels like a 1968 VW Bug compared to my M3P


and the Tesla would cost less money....yeah it's not a manual, but there is something about that instant and insane speed that is so much fun and never gets old....


but if your are dead set on only one of the two choices, CTR all day...no question

The Hyundai i30 N is the car that we can't get that is the competitor to the CTR. It's compared favorably for years. The Veloster N is similar...

I've owned a '95 Integra and '02 RSX-S so I'm normally a Honda guy as well but picked up a '22 Veloster N 6MT 6-7 months ago and absolutely love it. I never thought I'd own or like any Hyundai but the car really is that good and enjoyable to me. My 335i is also a 6MT but I drive the VN every now and then to give the E92 a rest as it's a highly modified/higher mileage N54 and has days where I just don't feel like dealing with it.

I don't like the FK8 styling so never really seriously considered owning one but I have thought about maybe adding a FL5 or GRC in the near future. I have a deposit down on a GRC and have been offered 2 but turned both down. I think we're gravitating more towards replacing our Passat with a '23 Kona N later this year with as much as we like the Veloster. When you could still get one new I can't think of a better new car for the $ as the VN. Paid $33,595 + tax.

CTR has a better manual trans than the Veloster N. I'd pick the CTR, but then I saw they're wanting 46k for it....

I understand. The ADMs are still relatively high on the FL5 and I while they may lower with time, I expect them to remain through the production run.

I'm curious, why did you pass on the GR Corolla? Were these cars offered at MSRP or with an ADM?

MSRP on both. The first one didn't even have the performance package. Literally a base Core. I passed on the second because it was red though it did have the perf and tech packs. I've been holding out for a black one with at least perf and tech but have preferred a Circuit in Heavy Metal from the start.

Good for you. As much as I'm impressed with my FL5, these cars aren't worth an ADM IMHO. They're fairly priced at MSRP.

I really like the look and performance of the FL5 but agree that it's worth MSRP and nothing more. The interior alone puts the GRC and VN to shame.

I have a 2023 Kona N and it’s a blast to drive. In comfort mode it’s manageable as a daily but N mode turns it into the vehicular equivalent of a warthog. It’s just plain ridiculous sometimes and very different from my M4. I also think the interior quality in the Kona is better than the VN.

Yeah the CTR is a great car but finding a good one for less than $50,000 is difficult.
