Anyone tried Pagid pads (blue or black?)
Hi all
...any real-life feedback on the above pads? Do they squeck? Any sort of feedback based on personal experience is welcomed. |

I have the Yellow padgid that confusingly sometimes com in black.
The breaking performance is excellent. Ant from speed religion reckons pads all round + new hoses + new fluid = 90% bbk. the yellow squeak like f**k.

...well I have got official reply by racepadsUK that blue and black compounds are not yet on catalog for 335i.
Considering that the yellow (RS 19) do squeck a lot and are not meant for use in street (poor cold performance) I might consider to go for the EBC red route. It is funny how different and opposite feedbacks arise about EBC though! |

Haven't used Pagid on the BMW but always went for them on other cars if available. Found them to offer great, progressive braking, not too bad when cold and not too bad on the dust either.
Also, have to agree with the comment above, new fluid and hoses makes a massive improvement in braking. A few years ago we uprated my bruvs Golf with uprated disks (same size), Pagid pads, Dot 5.1 fluid and 6-braided hose kit.... damn, this thing hauled up to a stop like nothing I'd been in, had you up against the seat belt, very progressive, no sequal or lock-up (no ABS) and not a bigger disk or caliper insight.

The road pads are called RS421 Blue and RS422 Black (which confusingly also uses a dark blue coating) - I can only assume you haven't used these pads yet on your E9x (which is most likely, given they're only available as a custom order item from Pagid DE at the moment) RS421 Blue and RS422 Black pads are both fast road pads, designed for use on ultra high-performance street cars. As such, they have a higher carbon compound for extra heat resistance, and that leads to a very minute amount of squeal when the pads are cold and the weather damp or wet. Once warm, the 421 Blue pads don't squeal at all, and the 422 Blacks only a very tiny amount (which you can hear with the windows open, but not when they're shut). The RS421 are standard fitment on things like Aston DB9, Lambo Gallardo, and the Ferarri 360. They are a fabulous road pad, with an excellent cold friction coefficient and superb resistance to heat-induced fade. They are not cheap however, at probably around £280 a set, but by God to they work well. I had a custom set of RS421s made by Pagid for my car when it was on the original 335i brakes, and now I have a set of RS422s front and rear on my AP Racing calipers. The RS29 Yellow pads (and the predecessor RS19) are endurance pads designed for sports car racing and track days. They have a higher friction coefficient than the RS421/422 pads, and a much higher heat resistance which makes it suitable for endurance racing (or tracks like the Nurburgring). They can be used on the road, but the performance from cold isn't that great, and they squeal like a thing possessed. I use the RS29 pads when I'm at the 'Ring, and swap back to the RS422s for the journey home and normal everyday driving. Recommended without question or hesitation!

Incidentally, the original EBC Red Stuff pads were awful... the later version with the carbon ceramic compound and said to be much better, but there is still a question as to whether our cars are too heavy to be used with the EBC Red Stuff pads. They seem to have worked well on lighter cars (hot hatches etc) but the reports back from friends of mine who've used them with heavier cars like the A4 Quattro etc are not that reassuring...

Is this "customization" available to anyone? I would be interested to it. |
