F1 2023: Canadian GP - Montréal (June 18)

Circuit:

Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve

Quote:
Montréal
When was the track built?

The man-made Notre Dame Island in the middle of the St Lawrence River was created for the 1967 Expo 67 World's Fair. Once the expo and the ensuing 1976 Montreal Summer Olympics had left town, some clever people decided to make a race track out of the island’s roads. And lo, the Circuit Ile Notre-Dame, as it then was, came to be.
When was its first Grand Prix?

With the Canadian Grand Prix having been in search of a permanent home for a number of years in the 1960s and 1970s, the Circuit Ile Notre-Dame first hosted the race in 1978. Fittingly, Gilles Villeneuve claimed his maiden win, at the track that would end up bearing his name.
What’s the circuit like?

The fast, low-downforce circuit is one of the drivers’ favourites. The track is quite stop-start, with lots of heavy-braking chicanes and the famous hairpin to get the anchors working hard. Out of the corners, though, the track is quick and flowing, while the most iconic piece of the circuit comes right at the end of the lap: the Wall of Champions, so-called after excursions into it from Damon Hill, Jacques Villeneuve and Michael Schumacher during the 1999 Canadian Grand Prix weekend.
Why go?

The Montrealais really embrace their Grand Prix weekend, with the charming city turning into an F1-loving party town in the week leading up to the race. For the Grand Prix itself, the leafy setting makes the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve one of Formula 1’s most laidback venues.
Where is the best place to watch?

It’s got to be one of either Grandstand 15, 21 or 24, the three that surround the hairpin. It makes for a real amphitheatre vibe down there, as well as allowing you to see all the hairpin overtakes.

So what are your predictions?

Will the seemingly progress of the Mercedes upgrades also work in Montréal?
I think this track will suit Ferrari better than the last one.
But RB will be the strongest one again.

My prediction:

1. VER
2. PER
3. LEC
4. HAM
5. ALO

I go straight away to Ferrari's predicament and Charlie's wolf cry for Ferrari to LISTEN to the drivers and work with them keeping in mind what he has said about how his 23 drove at Barcelona and indeed how Carlos was swamped by the Mercs.

With wildfires raging in Canada affecting cities as far away as New York it has had some impact on Montreal with residents there being advised to close windows, it's not known yet how this will affect the GP on following weekend but if any decision is made then it will probably be before teams start flying equipment out to Montreal.

The fires have been raging about 6 weeks and are thought to have been started by lightning strikes and also careless people not putting out camp fires properly.

In the old days I attended Formula 1 at Mosport which I think is still a great race track but it is hard to get to and even harder to leave after a race. I had the opportunity to crew at a race in Montreal but it was the Canadian Tire Nascar series. Going to a Formula 1 race in Montreal is on my bucket list but not in the cards just yet. Montreal is fun to visit and race weekend will be a zoo.

Latest is that the Montreal GP WILL go ahead as things stand at the moment according to Formula One, but with 400 fires still raging I think Montreal council would have the final say and there could be problem if they decide against the race with the cars and equipment in place, I'm just thinking forward and not day to day.

McLarens Stella has indicated why Mercs zero pod concept failed and Russell now fires a warning at RBR
I believe Charlie has said that he would only drive with LEW if he did go to Merc and not with RUS.

It could be the last chance saloon for Checo to pull his finger out and at least back up Max if he can't challenge anymore, Marko is getting the shakes also about this island track but that's understandable with his age.
With an engine that's just one race old Max should have it under control however many witchcraft threats are coming from Merc, Ferrari and AM

Same situation here my friend . 30°C in the shade and 46° in full sun .

It's hiding for the sun for the next 2 weeks (heat wave)

Bad news . I read that El Niño is back !
