What Are You Cross Shopping?

Curious what others are cross shopping the M2 with and why you went with (or plan to go with) the BMW M2.

I have my M2 ordered with the carbon buckets and most options.
I want it to be a daily drivable track car project. I'll be modifying it quite a bit

my other choice, but In a different price range is the Porsche 718 GT4 manual, for the same reasons

I looked at the CT4BW and Cayman but never had a doubt the M2 was the car for me, even when I had the opportunity to buy either of those cars immediately. I guess it helps that I already had a G42 M240i.

I have my order in on a new M2 but I'm actually looking to test drive the new Integra Type S.

Inputs should be better across the board vs the m2 (shifter, driving feel, etc) but I don't know if I can "revert" to a fwd 4 cyl setup. Interior will be a big step down too other than the ELS sound system.

Thought about a used GTS 4.0 Manual but the prices are absurd right now and probably will be forever at this point.

Funny enough I seen a CT4-V Blackwing at a car show this weekend and is what got me thinking about it. I realize it's a 4-door, but even still. Did you get an opportunity to test drive it?

I have an order placed for a GTS 4.0 with my local Porsche dealer and I know I’ll never see it.

I did. It felt extremely claustrophobic for a 4-door sports car. The only attributes I preferred over the M2 were the gearbox and styling. The looks are subjective, and the gearbox felt notchier and had shorter throws. In terms of the engine and the interior fit/finish, the BMW is a no brainer.

Good stuff, thanks for that.

The 4BW was also the only car I really considered and test drove. It's got more rear room. The shifter feels better, but I found the driving experience overall less precise. I also do not like GM's infotainment system.

I think if you were hauling around more adults, the BW is the better pick. But if you don't need the room, I think the G87 edges it out in a lot of other categories.

I'm also going to drive the ITS, hopefully next week, and have deposits on both. But no idea when I might actually get an M2.

I drove the CT4V BW and was impressed with what it was for a GM vehicle, but not the right car for me.

Supra and Z last year but couldn't get a stealership to agree to MSRP. Went to a Bmw dealer and they are willing to do msrp on the M2.

Didn't really cross shop other cars. Saw the M2 pics and read up on the specs and decided I wanted one. Well, actually I was looking to get an 240i but wanted a 6-speed manual. Then when I found out that couldn't be I turned my attention to the M2. More money than the 240i. But still quite affordable. I had a 2022 230i with low miles trade in and the balance I could write a check for.

(If I didn't love my 2023 MINI JCW so much I'd order a 240i for my daily driver. However, my sister just picked up a new X4 M40i (in Phytonic Blue) and it is a beautiful vehicle and is a tempting choice. Would be my first SUV.)

Liked the 230i, my 1st BMW (don't count my 1st MINI a 2018 JCW as a BMW car), and decided it was time to experience an M2 car.

Fortunately I was able to locate a launch car that was not spoken for and buy it. Zandvoort Blue, black leather interior, 6-speed, carbon fiber roof.

I'm really liking the car. Have owned the car since April 14 and it has received more favorable comments and thumbs up than any other car I have owned in the same amount of time. About every time I take the car out in fact.

Not that I need confirmation the car's a good looking car.

Almost 2K miles and the car is comfortable, fast, feels great on the road and curvy ones, too. If driven reasonably delivers pretty good gas mileage.

Besides the G87, I've been mainly looking at the G80. The dealership near my house has two CT4-V Blackwings. I looked inside of one. The interior looks small. They asked if I wanted to test drive, but I can't get over the engine (worried about reliability). I like the Supra, Z, and really want a C8, but wife wants at least four seats (two kids). She's pushing for the G80. I'm hesitant on the G80 grill (and finding one).

I was and maybe still am considering the C8. The problem for me is my budget. I’m capped out right around 70k. For that price, it would be a base model LT1. I would be worried about future resale value. Maybe I’m off base with that, but it’s my current thinking.
