E91 6HP19 Ticking sound
Hello to all of you.
I have BWM E91 N52B25 2006 year with N52B25 engine, non x-drive. Do your transmission tick's when the car is cold-started and you change to "D" gear and stop pressing the brake pedal, to make the car run forward. On mine it does and sometimes I hear that sound when I am driving on inclined road or a ramp. The sound is like "metal on metal" tick, right below the car, that's made me to thinking about that's the transmission. I haven't check the transmission fluids yet. Can someone share some experience about it? Thank's in advance! ![]() Last edited by bojanski; 06-20-2023 at 10:43 AM.. |

Noises are really really hard to diagnose unless you can post a video where you have recorded the sound. I realize that can be a pain in the ass to make the recording and post it, but it is probably the only way that you can get replies.

Just guessing here. If you shift from P to D, and from N->R or N->D, does it make the noise? Or does it only make the sound when you release the brakes? If the latter I would wonder if it was the brakes.
If with the brakes applied, going from P or N into R or D, and you hear that sound, then I wonder if something in the drive line is loose. Also engine or transmission mounts. |

Mainbearing has a good point about the engine mounts. You don't say how many miles (kilometers) are on your car, but for a 2006, engine mounts could be a possibility.
The best thing - IMO - for you to do here to get the most accurate diagnosis would be to get the car to somewhere where you can get the entire car a couple of inches off the ground and then have someone listen and look (under the hood, and then later, with the car higher in the air if the problem hasn't become apparent) while you/someone shifts the car into Drive. Engine mounts (for example) weak enough to allow engine movement would likely be apparent. Don't do this on jackstands. Go to a shop that has a proper lift. |
