2006 E90 N52 sudden long crank
Hi,
I have a 2006 E90 N52 manual trans with 168k miles. I bought it with ~ 25k miles. Since that time, I can't remember a time when it didn't start immediately. Push the start button and boom, it's running. In the last few days, I've had several instances of pushing the start button and it cranks for ~ 2 seconds before it starts. I know, that's nothing compared to some cars. I have a 68 Camaro that if it starts within a minute of cranking I'm happy. But on this car, something has changed or is failing. I'd like to fix it before I get stranded. I have INPA and no codes except a 2EF4 stuck thermostat which I've had for about a year. It throws a CEL in winter when engine doesn't warm up fast enough. I've been waiting to fix it until I do the rare leaking oil pan gasket...... I'd appreciate experience and/or ideas of what to check or replace. The only thought I had was fuel pressure. I would expect I could put a gage on the fuel rail somehow but determining if fuel pressure was lower than normal on cranking? not sure how to do that. Should I just replace a 15 year old fuel pump to remove that variable? Other ideas or suggestions? Thanks Ed |
