Hello, is it possible to disable the coasting function in Comfort mode?
Does it need to be coded?
I really hate this, everytime i lift off the gas the car starts floating around, there's no benefit it this, consumes more fuel than what it's supposed to save.
Only way to have this turned off is sport mode, and it's not really a solution.

When you lift off the gas (if you're not downhill or uphill) the car disconnects the gearbox so the car will roll forward just like if you put a manual in neutral

something i was taught never to do in driving school is now an embedded feature of my new car

Since i'm always driving in comfort mode i would like to cut off this thing

It wastes more fuel keeping the engine running than what engine breaking would save

I learned to drive manual in the UK and was told to never do this, as you don’t have control of the vehicle.

I assume this is only a feature while in full auto in the G42 (and in comfort)?

I only ever drive using the paddles (or I will when the f*****g car arrives) so I guess not an issue for me.

But it does seem weird that it’s now a thing…

Exactly, my thoughts, taking a curve in neutral with the engine disconnected from the gearbox is dangerous and does not feel natural to me.

Unless you put the gearbox in S and then pull a paddle(full manual mode) the car reverts to D by itself, so you will not avoid coasting

I guess the idea is to avoid engine braking allowing you to coast and save fuel in generel driving. But who drives like that? And obviously it's still effectively idling the engine so using fuel. It doesn't slow down as quickly with the engine disengaged from the drive train, but there's plenty of losses in the drive train anyway!

I agree that generally not having engine braking feels wrong. But I'm not sure if I would see it as a safety issue. Certainly BMW does not and they have liability for it so they would have thought hard about things like this.
As soon as you are on the accelerator you have drive so you have "control" and generally people aren't coasting at high speed through long corners so not sure that's a problem.

It just feels weird....

I know that there is an option to have coasting on/off in Eco Pro individual mode (and it also coasts by default in Eco Pro) but I've never seen it happen in Comfort mode. 6k miles in, mostly Comfort - it hasn't happened.
My only assumption would be - it has something to do with the fact it's EU version?

Yeah I was going to say I have only seen it happen in Eco pro on my M240i.

Same here. Doesn’t coast in comfort. Coasts in eco pro if enabled. I like it. I use eco for long distance trips. When entering a town and the speed limit reduces the car will roll forever.

Referring to OP, coasting is actually DISABLED in Comfort mode. You want coasting enabled. You can enable it in Eco Pro or coasting is automatically enabled in any Sport mode.

You can use BimmerCode to enable Comfort Plus mode which has coasting enabled. I did that and set that to my default drive mode and then switch to sport individual when the car is up to temp

You’re correct that coasting is poor practice. However, that relates to manual vehicles as you can’t instantly apply power, or use engine braking while in neutral. In automatic cars, as soon as you touch the gas, power is available - unless you selected neutral in which case you should just be slapped.

In my past BMWs coasting was only available in Eco Pro.
In any case, if you are going down a hill, coasting won’t engage so you still get the engine braking.

I’ve been debating on buying one these, but not sure if it’s worth it since there are things not working. Is it still worth the purchase without some of them working?

It was worth it for me just to remove the damn pop up warning message every time you start the car. Also loving Comfort Plus mode, soon going to code in anti Dazzle high beam headlights.

I’d definitely say it’s worth the price of the app and the OBD dongle too if you ever plan on doing data logging. You also need the dongle to reset your oil life counter on iD8

Auto start stop is disabled in mine on 03/2023. Must be a market thing.

The best way to save fuel when slowing or going downhill is to manually select a tall gear. If the car doesn't need power, it cuts fuel to the engine anyway - you can see this on the real-time fuel consumption display (which is a very short-term average, so it drops over 5 or 10 seconds). But the transmission is still engaged and the engine is still turning, so power is pretty instant if needed.

From what I hear, BimmerCode enables about 80% functionality so I’ll be giving that a try first. Esys is a bit more expensive so not sure if I can justify the price for 20% more compatiblity.

Comfort Plus: softer but more floaty suspension. Coasting enabled: does not disenagage the engine/transmission when stopping. Shifts are smoother, steering is slightly tweaked as well. It’s the Rolls Royce-ish drive mode
