I thought even below freezing was fine as long as they are not load bearing. |

If they are just going on the car for unheated storeage some all seasons may be cheaper and there is better availability. |

Posting this again for those that didn't see it in the wheels/tires forum. I got a pair of rear winter tires from this place and they were already delivered. Brand new, BUT made in 2018. Based on my internet searching and a talking with local installers, should be just fine for a season or two. Saved $700. Had to get the matching fronts from TireRack, however.

One option that might save a little is searching on tirerack for G80 M3 winter tire package and you will see a nice OZ wheel option 19 inch square setup 20mm offset and winter Pzero BMW star tire comb for 4300 with tax and free shipping.
I ordered Michelin Pilot Alpin 5s from paddelshifterz and spent slightly more than half of that tire rack amount ( super fast shipping from Germany but $$$$) and plan to use on OEM wheels, 19 front and 20 rears to avoid having a set a wheels I really don’t want. |

Dedicated winter tires and adjusting your driving is key. I love to let the car slide in the right situation and I encourage it. It lets you learn to deal with slippery surface so that you don't panic when it happens organically. I only had trouble ONCE. It was in Nov 2021 when we had freezing rain followed by snow during a night. I had to be pushed by others several times that day. My ex-wife still has her 2007 E91 328xi AWD since new. XDrive is fantastic in snow. That thing is a tank.

My thought before I decided on keeping my car in the garage for the winter was to just get a cheap set of wheels/tires for the winter. This way you don’t pay for the mounting of different tires twice a year. Also, the winters tend to be harsh on the wheel finish as well even if you are on top of cleaning them.
Many people(myself included) are selling 19” wheel/tire sets that cost the same as just the winter tires for the stock rims. |

Here's a $2,500 wheel/tire package I got. Cheapest I have found. Also, they're 19x245 so replacing tires in the future will be cheaper. They also have a19x275 option as well. As a bonus, wheels are flow formed and light weight.

Stacking puts a lot of pressure, possibly hundreds of pounds if the rims are in, on the shoulder of the tire on the bottom. It can cause deformation, I've been told. |
