What oil pan gasket for N54?
Subject says all... what oil pan gasket should I order for my N54 that will last the longest? Also, is there anything else I should buy to do the job, are there any other parts that need to be removed that require gaskets, non-reusable hardware, etc.?
thanks! |

Follow up question: would you do the engine mounts at the same time? car has 160K miles on it. FCP Euro sells "Corteco" brand are those good? Is the "335is" mount kit worth the extra money? What's the difference?
I am not experiencing any symptoms that I notice, but it is certainly possible that there's been an increase in NVH that has crept up over the years that I just haven't noticed because it's been gradual. I don't know what the average lifespan of BMW engine mounts are. Mechanic suggested doing them "if I want to" so I'm not sure if he's just saying the labor is sort of combined, or at my age/mileage they might need to be done. |

Been gone for a while and am scrolling through posts since I left.
An oil pan gasket is just...a gasket. Look for a replacement on FCP Euro or Pelican Parts. Any gasket they stock is going to be sufficient, and they both don't stock chinesium crap. Don't over think this. Dropping the oil pan is a rather involved process. If you are paying to have the work done, replacing the motor mounts is not a bad idea for a vehicle with your age. Even if they seem fine now, the marginal extra cost of replacing them while down there is not a lot, so why not. One other thing to think about, and this is a bigger "maybe", and that is the turbo seals. When seals fail, you really need to replace them. Not sure how much extra your car mechanic/proctologist will charge for that while he has his hand up your car's ass, but $500 extra would be worth the cost for me to know that I probably wont have to ever do it again on my '07 335.

Anything from FCP will work--I like genuine BMW for gaskets as they do last a bit longer in my experience. I would probably do the mounts so you never have to worry about them again. Corteco is what comes factory on the car so those should actually be the exact same just without the BMW logo. I've never used the IS mounts but from what I've read they're excellent and a worthwhile upgrade.
